Hunting with birds and dogs. A small museum by the town hall full of Islamic Art. Well worth a visit. As everywhere in Merida helpful friendly person on the desk.
The column of books cast in stone to the left of the entrance caught my eye, then the name of the library - Biblioteca Municipal de Beja Jose Saramajo. I realise now I should have taken a better photo of the books, from closer up. Ah well, next time!
In Journey to Portugal Saramago, perhaps writing of a different earlier era, to my mind, damns Beja with faint praise, " the layout of the town, the way things have been torn down, or built up, the neglect and yet again sheer ignorance, make it seem at first sight no different from others with little or no history." They don't seem to have held a grudge since they named their library after him.
Excellent Pessoa Display. There were also some interesting Cds in this shop. I bought one of music from the Sahara. Unfortunately the woman forgot to put the CD in the case which I didn't find out until I was back in England!
Lisa Goren, a conservation artist was inspired by one of my Antarctica pics. This was the result. I will put up her site so that you can see other paintings of Antarctica as well.
