The Kea. What an amazing bird. It's the only mountain parrot in the world, it's super smart and it's absolutely magnificent. It looks amazing when it's just sitting there but when it unfolds it's wings the kea reveals it's unbelievable beauty because the feathers under it's wings are actually bright orange. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good and in focus shot of a flying kea.

Today was one of those days where I just needed to get out of the house. I was feeling stressed and agitated, Courtney wouldn’t be home for a few hours, and I just needed some time to decompress. I grabbed my X-T1, jumped in my jeep and headed North. Getting out like that always helps clear my head and calm me down. Being alone with my camera and my thoughts is almost vital to my sanity sometimes.
We have a cold front coming in hard tonight. Today was beautiful but it is supposed to get very cold and rain and snow a bit tonight. You can see it in theses pictures. The cold is on the way.
I am really loving shooting with the Fuji X-T1. The viewfinder is amazing and it is a wonderful performer. There is no RAW support yet in Lightroom, but I actually kind of like that. It is forcing me to do the best I can with the JPEG’s in camera. It makes things simple and fun.
The Hall of Mosses Trail in the Hoh Rainforest (part of the Olympic National Park) is filled with old temperate trees covered in green and brown mosses. Trees include bigleaf maples and Sitka spruces. The mosses on the trees do not damage the trees. However, the trees can fall by the winds in storms because of their shorter roots due to the abundance of nutrients and water in the forest. Many trees and mosses grow from and over the fallen tree trunks.
