This trail loops around an area of slickrock where there are numerous potholes. These basins in the sandstone retain water after storms. The trail offers great views of The Needles in the distance. The trailhead is located along the Big Spring Overlook road in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, Utah, near the end of the road. The trail informs visitors about the little shrimp that thrive in the potholes of the slickrock when they are full of water.
Sunset Point offers vistas of some of the most famous and breathtaking of Bryce Canyon's hoodoos. Directly below the point and to the south, the Silent City rises from the canyon floor, a maze of hoodoos and fins packed in tight formation.
Golden honey coloured leaves set against a backdrop of harsh decay in a withering wood. The most delicious of contrasts.
Dear Monarch Butterfly -- You sure did grab my attention as you fluttered through my frame while I was photographing a landscape. I watched you flawlessly flutter from flower to flower (tongue twister!!), and I thought about the various beliefs as to what the presence of a butterfly means, and, quite frankly, I'm not sure if I fully believe any of them. But, I did think about each of the alleged "meanings" & how extremely applicable they all are to life right now, ending with a full-body deep breath of gratitude. So, Butterfly, whether you are the beautiful rendition of a passed soul, whether you bring good fortune or peace, or whether you were just doing your butterfly thing & crossing paths was sheer coincidence -- thank you for those few moments of positive reminders!
