Before preparing cells for storage with NeuroFreeze, inventor Jyothi Arikkath, Ph.D., estimates cell viability on a hemocytometer. Cells stored using NeuroFreeze retain up to 90 percent viability, a dramatic improvement over the 30 percent rate of other methods.

This is a neuron. It's a brain cell, and your brain has around 100 billion of them. Some of them, such as the ones in the outer area of your brain, called the cerebellum, can have over 1,000 connections each.
This is a model of a neuron at the American Museum of Natural History. It is connected to another neuron (out of frame in the top right) by a long arm called the dendrite.
