Shiprow, Aberdeen - to raise awareness of and celebrate the ‘umbrella’ term of neurodiversity, which includes ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia. The project runs until September.

Hundreds of brightly-coloured brollies have been suspended in the air above the market and beyond in Newark, to raise awareness and acceptance of neurological conditions.

The project was officially launched in partnership with the ADHD Neurodiversity Foundation. About one in ten people have dyslexia, one in 20 have ADHD and one in 60 are autistic and together with other conditions that makes up about a quarter of the population of this planet.

Quote….“In our culture, historically we have often considered those people as being less intelligent and less able, but we know that isn’t true. Over 30% of chief executives, entrepreneurs and self employed people have ADHD or dyslexia.”

The umbrellas have been installed by Newark Creates, a three year cultural programme in Newark and will remain in place until September.

settimana 5-11 Marzo:

Ariete (21 marzo - 19 aprile)

Coraggio! Non cominciare a dire “ma… no…”. Buttati! È stato interessante, no? Allora provaci ancora.

Vergine (23 agosto - 22 settembre)

Hai la tendenza a reagire in modo eccessivo.

Quote from the website "The Stoke-On-Trent Trent City Centre BID in partnership with the ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity and many local businesses are bringing an uplifting and iconic public art installation to Stoke on-Trent City Centre in July 2022.

The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is a national arts installation which raises the awareness and understanding of our cognitive and learning differences, and celebrates the intelligence, talents and employability of every human being.

A vibrant canopy of hundreds of colourful umbrellas suspended above high streets and public spaces, it is designed to represent 1 in 5 people whom are neurodiverse and recognise the many positive strengths and abilities that comes with learning and thinking differently."

While doing not much at all today i came across an article in the times online with luck the following link will take you to the article.

uk.yahoo.com/news/telling-them-lies-parents-anger-1445464...

Its basically about concerned parents who believe their kids have been brainwashed into becoming trans with the help of the education system, Now while I understand some of the worries some glaringly obvious observations can be made such as this this

"Anne was also shocked by the speed at which her daughter, who had always been a tomboy, had socially transitioned. It was the beginning of lockdown and with home schooling, she was spending all her time online, where she found a community of people who “indoctrinated” her"

This is one of my biggest issues. Why is it a girl can be a Tomboy and totally accepted as such but a boy can't be a janegirl without getting a beating or told its very very wrong!!

Also why is it OK to be a tomboy until said girl realises she should have been a boy at that point all hell brakes lose.

That's the disturbing thing about the quote

" her daughter, who had always been a tomboy"

Is this not blinding obvious that the girl actually sees herself as a boy just like many of us saw ourselves as girls at such a young age!! This parent is blind to her daughters mental state. and has admitted in the statement that her daughter had always been a tomboy hence any suggestion that she was groomed or brainwashed is totally false, All the girl did was discover what was actually wrong with her/him and sought help from people like her/him.

This next part made me laugh because i really don't know where they get this rubbish from or at least in my case it is rubbish.

"Eventually, Anne found a therapist and her daughter was assessed as having Asperger’s.

There is growing evidence of a crossover between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and gender dysphoria.

The largest study to date, by Cambridge University, found that transgender and gender-diverse people were up to six times as likely to have autism than the rest of the population and had “significantly higher” self-reported measures of autistic traits.

The Cass review found that a third of young people referred to gender identity clinics have autism or other types of neurodiversity.

OK for the record I don't have Asperger’s, Autism or any other mental health issue other than the belief from a very young age that i should have been female, I don't hate my body, i was never abused or felt anything other than being happy with who i am. so all those stats above don't work for me and i am sure they don't work for an awful lot of us.

I will say however being trans has become trendy, its the thing to be and a lot of people do go down the transition route who possibly shouldn't Hence why i think it should be easier to self identify without the need for medical intervention at least that way if you discover you made the wrong move you can go back.

As for DE transitioning yeah that happens and will happen more because being trans is trendy and people change minds like the weather, that said the true (Oh i will get killed for saying this) transgendered people won't go back on their choice.

The article is the usual emotive bit of writing that does question what is happening in our world rightly so, Its just a shame that it is more based around the parents disappoint that their children see themselves as the opposite gender than they were born. Unlike being gay you can't hide being trans, its pretty darn obvious when Jane becomes Tom and that has an awful lot of attached social stigma.

Today it is World Autism acceptance and awareness day. Yes I have it, also ADHD. My biggest special interest are lampposts. So I combined two of my hobbies, lampposts and Lego.

Returning from 2022 (when I couldn't go), Lightscape transformed the Royal Botanical Gardens of Melbourne/Naarm.

In past light exhibitions (I specifically recall their fire events), the art displays have been somewhat interactive. This exhibition kept you on a specific path you could not wander off from. Therefore I felt detached from the artworks. Whilst there were a couple of highlights in the first half (starting from the main gate entrance), I felt the real excited began after the midway point.

I went to the relaxed session, but their idea of lower numbers, is ridiculous. we started the trail right on go time, but within 45mins, the grounds were swarming with people. There should have been a much longer lead time for the relaxed session - lower numbers is the biggest draw card for people with disability and neurodiversity. PLUS the volume of the music playing was not at relaxed levels. Accessibility isn't hard, so why do so many venues continue to fail?! Not that buying an accessible ticket was accessible - Ticketek is really a sh!t show when it comes to accessibility - it took six weeks to book a ticket that could have been purchased in 15mins (not to mention the stress involved in having to get someone to organise to take a call at a time that suited all parties - with my brand of autism I do not speak over the phone).

The official blurb: "Be mesmerised by a six metre orb made of thousands of LEDs, singing trees and a flickering fire garden amongst colour-changing installations, soundscapes and large-scale illuminated sculptures. Experience the new two kilometre trail around the lake and celebrate the beauty of nature after dark."

Great round of books. Neurotribes. The legacy of Autism and future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman was incredible, maybe a little long in spots. The history of Autism and medicine is the history of the world and the future of the race. Reagan by Brands was fantastic, you felt like you are part of the family at times. Carrier is a series of Navy guys talking about their carrier experiences over decades. Edited perfectly by Jean Hood, a little dated but still very interesting. I love getting a great round of books.

In any case, my flags are:

* Foot fetish (the large one) this is my primary ID, whether or not the LGBTQIA+ community accepts it as valid or not. I’ve known since first grade that I’m attracted to womens’ feet. I was also diagnosed with dyslexia at the same age, but “neurodiversity” was not at thing. Also, fetishism was, at that time, considered a mental illness — kind of like other non-normy IDs.

...and from top on the smaller sign:

* Greyromantic -- on the aromantic spectrum, but capable of romance occasionally, and under certain circumstances

* Nebularomantic -- difficulty differentiating between romantic and platonic love and understanding romantic love; reserved for neurodivergent folks

* Neurodiverse/Neurodivergent -- in my case, dyslexia, atypical ADHD and migraines. There also appears to be a strong correlation between neurodivergent people and kink/fetishes.

I’ve been made to feel incredibly small about all of these, especially my foot fetish — by multiple people who claimed to love me, including intimate partners, and been referred to therapy to be “cured” — guess what? I, too, was born this way, and, to their credit, the therapists eventually acknowledged this.

Sometimes, when human interactions are too much, you are better off talking to a cat.

I'd like to say something very profound now, on the subject of neurodiversity, but I am too tired to think so instead I am asking everyone to be kind, especially this mental health awareness week.

Meet my granddaughter, Everly. She’s five years old, full of energy, curiosity, and sunshine. Everly is autistic and non-communicative—but she is by no means silent. Her smile, her laughter, and her presence speak volumes to those who take the time to see and feel.

Autism looks different for everyone. In Everly’s case, she doesn't use words, but she expresses herself in ways that are just as rich and meaningful. She finds joy in small things—sunlight through a window, textures under her hands, the rhythm of a swing—and that joy is contagious.

She reminds me daily that communication isn’t just about speech. It’s about connection, presence, and love.
