Subhas Chandra Bose (Bengali: সুভাষ চন্দ্র বসু; Hindi: नेताजी सुभाषचन्द्र बोस; Urdu: نیتاجی سبھاش چندر بوس; Oriya: ସୁଭାଷ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ବୋଷ, 23 January 1897 – – unconfirmed) known by name Netaji ("Respected Leader") was an Indian revolutionary who led an Indian national political and military force against Britain and the Western powers during World War II. Bose was one of the most prominent leaders in the Indian independence movement and is a legendary figure in India today. Bose was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa to Janakinath Bose and Prabhabati Devi.
He is presumed to have died "in absentia" on 18 August 1945 from injuries sustained in an alleged aircraft crash in Taihoku (Taipei). However, no actual evidence of the death of Subhas Chandra Bose on that day has ever been officially authenticated and many committees were set up by the government of India to investigate the mystery of his presumed death. - From Wikipedia

"The national army that was raised by Subhas Chandra Bose. The British had been ruling the country in the firm belief that whatever may happen in the country or whatever the politicians do, they will never be able to change the loyalty of soldiers. That was one prop on which they were carrying on the administration. And that was completely dashed to pieces. They found that soldiers could be seduced to form a party - a battalion to blow off the British. I think the British had come to the conclusion that if they were to rule India, the only basis on which they would rule was the maintenance of the British Army."

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Government: The Forgotten Sovereign of India’s Freedom Struggle
Introduction
On 21 October 1943, the world witnessed a bold declaration — Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose announced the establishment of the Azad Hind Government (Arzi Hukumat-e-Azad Hind) in Singapore.This provisional government, born in exile, was a sovereign declaration of India’s independence from British rule — even before 1947. Led by one of India’s most charismatic revolutionaries, the Azad Hind Government united the global Indian diaspora and transformed the freedom struggle into an international political and military campaign.
Formation and Leadership
The Azad Hind Government emerged from the framework of the Indian Independence League and was officially proclaimed under the leadership of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who assumed multiple roles — Head of State, Prime Minister, and Minister for War and Foreign Affairs.
The key members of the cabinet included:
- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose – Head of State and Supreme Commander
- Captain Lakshmi Sahgal – Minister for Women’s Affairs (Rani of Jhansi Regiment)
- Rash Behari Bose – Senior Advisor
- A.C.N. Nambiar – European Representative
The government adopted:
- National Greeting: Jai Hind
- National Flag: Tricolor with the Springing Tiger emblem
- National Anthem: Subh Sukh Chain
This marked the first organized Indian government-in-exile, declaring war against the British Empire.
