Microglia, a type of nervous system cell previously suspected to cause retinal damage, have been shown to be beneficial in slowing prion disease progression in the brain, and now in retina. In this image, microglial cells (green) are engulfing and eliminating prion-damaged photoreceptors (red), which appears to slow retinal degeneration.

this game was made in colombia (in the 70s? 80s?) and sold around the world. i can't remember where i got it (probably some junk shop), but it's terrific even though a few pieces are missing from two of the internal panels.

finally got a crisp high contrast shot! shooting white on white is rather tricky for me.
Inspired by the complex forms of radiolarians, where intricate pattern is integral to structure, these shapes derive from a simulation of spring meshes which form mirrored catenoid surfaces. We created interactive software to morph, twist, and subdivide each design, transforming a simple mesh to a complex patterned structure.
The final design is built up layer by layer in durable nylon plastic using Selective Laser Sintering, a kind of 3D printing. These forms would be impossible to create by traditional manufacturing methods.

They build the shapes in 3d program and then print them with 3d printer out of cell cycle.

A challenging shoot due to lack of light if not darkness, no lighting, no speedbooster and a cropped frame sensor! The image noise makes me a bit sick but the angles were just too good to leave them out!
You can sometimes use disadvantage to your, well advantage, as was the case on this shoot: amidst the darkness there was a glow around the subjects...
