As the War against Blacktron ranged on, The Lego Scientists wanted to remove as many of their soldiers from the front line as possible. To this end many Automated Attack Robots (AARs) were created and deployed with various degrees of effectiveness. This Scout AAR was one of the true success stories. Although lightly armed with two underslung 360 degree SMGS (attached to the body in yellow), the Scout was capable of dealing with infantry and discovering and relaying the co-ordinates of enemy positions and movement.

Built at Brickfete with Si-Mocs playbrick. He was kind enough to let me keep this and some other sweet loot. The Build was inspired by Brickwarriors Lances which were donated by NeonBricks (jameson and Jamie Leigh).
It is the Age of Steam!
In the New World of America, The Wright Brothers Orville and Wilbur are pioneering Aviation. First contact with the Aliens left them both "touched"
Wilbur gained a couple of permanent physical reminders but was also gifted with increased mental acumen and a deep knowledge of avionics.
Orville a talented mechanic and test driver already was imbued with super keen senses and reflexes which served to hone his new craft as test pilot and crash test dummy extraordinaire!
These bad boys will be available soon.
These are the fleshie versions. If these are popular I enough I will release some alternate single digit pairs in other colour ways.
The Yellow versions of the boys will have their torso colours reversed and of course some tweaks to hat and saw colour.
Design details
Initial torso design work sketched by me, improved by Roag. Developed to next level by Vic at eclipsegrafx with feedback from Guy Himber.
Torsos have been pad printed by Citizen Brick.
Goggle head digitally printed by eclipsegrafx, designed by Adam at Phienix Custom Bricks, in conjunction with Hiro Rydell.
Monocle head Pad printed by Custom bricks through Eclipsgrafx
Accessories include (but not limited to)
Crazybricks Stovepipe hat
Brickwarriors Chainsaw hand
Sidan Crossbow
Some versions will also have the mother of all accessories the "Brickarms raygun" :D
This has been a very long road for me to get here, but I have a lot of people to thank for their patience, understanding and willingness to share their insight into Lego.
Mucho thanks to Neonbricks for believing in me from the start, Vic of Eclipse for being so kind with his time and skills, Joe at CB for not telling me to get lost when I changed my mind and plans so regularly, then delivering such an epic print. Guy Himber for putting the brakes on Me when terrible mistakes could have been made. Ryan at brickwarriors for his awesome chainsaw design, I hope you do some more stuff like this (I have ideas). All you guys who keep coming back and making me keep on kit bashing. Captain beer beard for being a cool (and very drunk) sounding board!

1991’s Blacktron II little battle pack, The Two-Pilot Craft. What a name.
This fun little craft is about as basic as it gets. No printed pieces, other than the minifigs, but the weird thing has charm!
Blacktron II is a great space sub-theme with the black, white, and neon green color scheme. Really screams retro LEGO to me.
Acquiring this set was really just to grab a couple more of these minifigs for cheap, but I’m happy with this funny little craft.
More ‘90s LEGO to be featured soon, including more (larger) Blacktron II

1997’s Robo Master, the Big One from the bizarre RoboForce sub-theme!
That neon dome! And all the prints! It’s like a better version the Blacktron 2 pods, but it’s on this weird Beast Wars mecha. And it doesn’t detach to fly off. Bummer.
What does detach to fly off is pretty cool for how simplistic it is: a smaller Unitron Star Hawk II (#1789). A set design from another far superior Space sub-theme.
I don’t mean to hate on RoboForce this much, it looks cool, has tons of prints, neon transparent elements, and great minifigs with leg prints and updated helmet sculpts! All of that is awesome!
But why wasn’t this designed as a spacecraft? It would have been among the best. LEGO hadn’t figured out Mechs in ‘97, but they sure have now.
Final thought, what was the tail thing?
A weapon? A ‘robot’? A charger for the spacecraft?

The XL-15 enters the LEGO City!
This set wouldn’t have been on my radar if it wasn’t for the buzz about the Lightyear film’s director being AFOL Angus MacLane (check out his builds on Flickr!).
Evidently, he pushed for the in-film design to have a yellow transparent canopy, reminiscent of the Classic Space elements.
He also had an interesting spot on LEGOCon, worth a check out.
The build of this one and a cat seater spaceship is substantial! As a medium sized ship it checks most boxes for me: fits all accessories, swoosh-ability is there, has mobile base in form of laptop (stretch), and droid in the Catbot (also stretch). No escape pod/rover, which loses some points when compared to the medium builds of my ‘90s childhood.
But the elements and connections this set brings to the table blow anything from my childhood away. There are a few elements that are super obscure.
Color scheme for the spaceship is great, can’t miss with light blue, white, and black with that yellow canopy.
Also bonus points for extra head/hair elements for minifigs.
Less stellar for me were the minifigs. Buzz looks pretty good, but I’d prefer the dome over a normal helmet (I’m sure that’s a movie plot detail). The other figs have nice printing, but are pretty mute brown, like something out of a Star Wars set.
The shoulder pauldrons for all of them are cumbersome to range of motion.
The rocket launcher build doesn’t really work out to be held, but I do appreciate the built up weapon/scanning accessories.
Very nice set, strong suggest for the building experience and MOC possibilities!
I left off the red stripes off the wings. Does it look cleaner? Worse? Let me know

1997’s Robo Stalker, another Mech from the strange RoboForce sub-theme!
I’m kind of a fan of the space robot goblin in striped pants, vaguely reminds me of a Beetlejuice getup? Idk, but I dig it.
This set has some seriously unique space elements and a few familiar. This set stands strong as a part’s pack, but it has enough originality to merit its own existence in any retro space collection
Good consoles for both drivers, great transparent orange elements, and even a cool sticker over the torso windshield
This set has all the prints and printed legs for the minifigs, super deluxe for ‘97
Each pilot of the orange faction of RoboForce shares the same face (previously used in Aquanauts’ sub-theme), which is an odd choice considering how many different elaborate prints were used in these sets
The detachable head/craft is good looking, with that large Exploriens’ element for a cockpit, adjustable wings, and two storage containers

Blacktron II’s Allied Avenger (or Octopod) from 1991 enters the LEGO City!
LEGO’s best X-Wing pre-Star War license?
I’m a huge fan of Blacktron II’s use of octagon transparent neon green domes and detachable pods in their larger sets.
My younger self imagined the pods would be for atmospheric travel, with the back rockets intended for intergalactic travel/warp speed.
Pretty cool little spaceship, classic minifig with the old blockhead, and great neon pieces!

1991’s Aerial Intruder from the Blacktron II fraction enters the LEGO City!
The ‘Big’ ship from a fan favorite (myself decidedly included) sub-theme is actually not all that big compared to the other Space sub-themes’ flagships. This ship checks the majority of my criteria for what made an excellent spaceship play set as a kid!
Great color scheme and cool large transparent elements?
Blacktron 2 has arguably the best + printed large windshield!
Detachable base with usable interior space?
The center of the ship is large when opened and has an aft storage compartment. While tight when loaded with cargo, great when side-builds are deployed
Dropship/Escape Pod?
Two of the best designed simple ships that deploy from the sides, that are also designed to be compatible with the rest of the sub-theme! So simple and genius
And a bonus jetpack element that is classic
Rover?
Two! Yes, super simple, but very standard for the time.
Action features?
The simple rover launch action definitely suffices.
Droid/Robot?
Not for this faction, but I believe that’s because they were outlaws. Correct me if I’m wrong?
Yes, I’m a really big fan of this old spaceship. Any detractors, like having 5 pilot-able options with only two minifigs can be understood with all their buddies they’d have to break from the Space Police II
This Absolute Classic brings me to the conclusion of my look back at some of my favorite LEGO from the ‘90s. I’m sure I’ll do more shoots with these sets in the future, but I’ve got a ton of contemporary sets to showcase for now and a large MOC in progress.
What did you think of this ship? Did you have it? Does it hold up today?

NeoClassic Space popping up in the Monkie Kid theme with Chang’e Moon Cake Factory
With the build-up to the release of the Galaxy Explorer 2022, I’m looking back at a few builds over the past year that harken back to Classic Space- NeoClassic Space
I’m not necessarily the demographic for this kit, but the neon transparent elements and color scheme caught my eye for MOC potential. When viewing it through the lens of a medium-sized spaceship from early ‘90s, I can appreciate the set as a compelling plaything.
The Bunny Mech, while not meant for minifigs, carries two intended bunny-pilots or a resting minifig. The butt of the ship can pop off to reveal either an energy fuel container or storage for valuables (if not just a microwave in a strange place).
The ship has interesting shaping, especially with the legs, and that great large dome element. Escape pod box gets checked. Stud-shooters are there to good effect as well.
The side-base, a moon cake factory, build is simplistic but charismatic and effective. There is a conveyor belt that might not be captured by my photos, which looks really good for the few elements used.
Simple carrot-rocket and hover-control station/Live-stream station are simple but effective small builds to add to the play value/storytelling.
A funny medium-sized kit with some good MOC potential. What do you think?

1997’s Robo Raider! Check out this old LEGO Mech from a space sub-theme that I hardly remember!
I was a huge fan of the Space theme through the entirety of the 90’s, and was probably collecting the most LEGO of my childhood around ‘97, but when I came across this sub-theme I have a blind spot.
Exploriens? for sure. Insectoids and UFO? I was all about it. Robo Raiders? Never heard of ‘em.
Enough of my potential forgetful-ness, check out this funky robot.
This whole theme had some pretty rad prints, awesome neon transparent elements, and really cool mini-figs!
More RoboForce and older Space sets to be featured soon!

1992’s Rebel Hunter from Space Police II enters the LEGO City!
Took lots of pictures of this one, had some fun, check it out!
Also known as the Space Police Prisoner Patrol, this medium sized spaceship brings back loads of memories. Two fractions of Space sub-themes are represented here with the Space Police II fig and a Blacktron prisoner, which I really like as a huge fan of Blacktron.
The prisoner’s capsule is a funny little build that looks like it would clamp down on the fig’s feet. I like how these were the standard capsule in the Space Police 2 line and could be used with their other sets.
The ship itself is pretty basic. Uses some large funky elements to add easy bulk and width. I was never a fan of the technic elements being so prominent on the top of the ship, but I love the simple drop-ship action feature! Great transparent dark green elements! Very classic LEGO.
I always figured the green and red modified facets (3x3x2) were the equivalent of police lights, subbing green for blue.
Did you have this set growing up? Like it? Find it problematic?

Worse? Let me know
I’ll be looking at more contemporary LEGO sets that are bringing back Classic Space soon!

More Retro Space LEGO sets to be featured soon..

More 90’s LEGO to be showcased soon, including more of the space baddies - Blacktron II
