There were several Great Blue Heron nests nearby, on a small island in a small lake, in the Clear Creek Greenbelt, Wheatridge, Colorado. Those nests (and numerous Cormorant nests) have been there every year I have visited the area during the last six years.
I find it amazing that such small lakes/ponds can support so many large "fishing" birds. It's also amazing to me that many birds rest while standing on one leg.
I think the corrosion inside the prison spread nearby to this truck - interesting cab and a long bed you can't see.
Found nearby the prison ... perhaps hijacked by an escapee!
Happy Truck Thursday!
His head and neck are fully fluffed as seen in courtship. However, there wasn't a Hooded merganser hen nearby; perhaps he's practicing for the big day.
In Japan a subspecies, Monticola solitarius philippensis is distributed especially along coasts. It is a popular bird in Okinawa. A couple of blue rock thrushes nested at Miyakojima Tokyu Resort Hotel, Miyakojima, Okinawa, Japan. The male was so friendly and came nearby. No trimming picture.

For me, this is a different view of "birds"-- two helicopters approaching for mid-air refueling. They are most likely from nearby Patrick AFB.
It is the third highest mountain in Brazil, situated on the border of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states. It is the highest point in both states. It was historically considered the highest mountain in Brazil until 1965, when Pico da Neblina and Pico 31 de Março, next to the Venezuelan border, were explored, measured, and both found to be higher. The peak is said to have been so named after Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, ordered a flag to be flown on top of it.
It is one of the major attractions of Caparaó National Park, accessible from the nearby town of Alto Caparaó. That town and the entrance to the park lie in Minas Gerais, but the summit of Pico da Bandeira lies in Espírito Santo.
The summit is accessible to hikers of most age groups, with only very limited fitness requirements. The track from the park entrance to the summit track [8 km (5.0 mi)] can be driven by most vehicles, and the summit track itself runs for approximately 9 km (5.6 mi), with a further 1,000 m (3,280 ft) climb.

The sequence of the highest mountains in Brazil:
#1: Pico da Neblina (2,993.80 m / 9,822 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#2: March 31 Peak (2,972.70 m / 9,816 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#3: Pico da Bandeira (2,892 m / 9,488 ft), Brazil;
#4: Pico do Calçado* (2,849 m / 9,347 ft), Brazil;
#6: Pico do Cristal (2,769.80 m / 9,084 ft), Brazil;
The difference from the third highest to the first is only 101.80 meters / 334 ft in altitude.
I climbed the third, fourth and sixth in Brazil this weekend. Only the sixth mountain is challenging.
* For reasons of topographical prominence, the IBGE considers Pico do Calçado a secondary peak of Pico da Bandeira and not a separate mountain.
Vestrahorn mountain is located on the Stokknes Peninsula, close to the town of Höfn. Unlike most of the mountains in Iceland, it is made out of iron- and magnesium-rich gabbro rock, which leads to its dark and jagged appearance.
Standing separate from the mountains of the nearby Vatnajökull National Park, Vestrahorn is an impressive 454 metres (1,490 feet) tall. It faces out to the sea on its southern side and is surrounded by a sandy coastline that is often home to seals. Like most stretches of beach in Iceland, the sands here are black due to the island’s volcanism.
Two of three female African lions (Pantera leo) that have been hunting together. After their meal, they went to the watering hole for a drink, then spent time relaxing and grooming nearby. The traces of blood on their coat are from their most recent hunt.

Took a spin to the nearby farmland the other evening, hoping to find a nice location with an interesting foreground to capture the sunset.
Before taking off I consulted with the trusty Google Map and found this farm that contained a cluster of silos. It turned out the location had a few more farm equipment, scattered all over the place, making it a bit more of a challenge to get a good composition given the sun's setting position and the little time I had.
Nevertheless, I am happy to come back with a few usable images. The Farmland @ Blue Hour was taken 16 minutes after this one.
Thanks for your visit, really appreciate it; please be safe and enjoy your day!
PS: I just noticed that I had captured both the sunrise and sunset on this spring day, March 21st!

Prambanan, of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is known for a large, nearby complex of temples built in the 9th and 10th centuries. The best-known set of temples in the complex is that of Lara Jonggrang, also called Candi Prambanan (Prambanan Temple) because of its close proximity to the village. These temples were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999.
The Lara Jonggrang was said to have been built by Dhaksa, a king of Mendang-Mataram (Hindu-Mataram) in the early 10th century, to worship the Hindu god Shiva. It is the largest Shiva temple in Indonesia. Lara Jonggrang, meaning Slender Maiden, was the name given by the people of the neighbourhood to a large statue of the Hindu goddess Durga (wife of Shiva) in the temple. The Lara Jonggrang was built on a four-square plane, surrounded by four walls with four large gates. The temples are subdivided into a higher and a lower terrace. On the higher terrace are major temples of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma with three smaller temples of their animal vehicles. The temples of the gods are decorated with reliefs depicting the Ramayana, one of the great Hindu epics. On the lower terrace are four sets of smaller temples surrounded by an inner wall with four gates.

At a nearby lake, I sighted a pair of these birds quite by accident - assumed they were male / female. They were perched quietly on some fences in an area which had a Shikra, couple of Kingfishers and lots of babblers. There were probably some rats / moles in the fields and the Owlet made 2-3 rounds to check for them before diving.
I sat on the roadside under a tree to get a better view when one of them flew past this spot to get a view and perched again. It made an diving attempt to get one of the rodents and missed it, but gave me a couple of good shots.
These are resident birds in the country and usually active during the crepuscular times and late nights.
When I checked these birds last week, they are gone as their habitat was destroyed due to real estate development . A large ugly boundary fence was setup and the trees - home of these owlets - were destroyed.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

Nearby to Ringwood Manor is Skylands Manor, a Tudor Revival Mansion that was intentionally made to appear centuries old, designed in the mid-1920’s by the distinguished American architect John Russell Pope, whose works include the National Archives and the National Gallery of Art.
The reflecting pool was empty, as it was late in the season (and late in the day).
I was out on the nearby meadows again this morning. The windy weather made taking macro shots almost impossible and the flying grass pollen caused a terrible hay fever attack. I returned home rather quickly but it was lovely to see that the thistles on the meadows are beginning to flower and I hope that they will soon attract some butterflies. For now only a hoverfly was interested in the first buds.

Long abandoned homestead in the ghost town of Cottonwood,SD. population 9. Cottonwood "boomed" in the late 1800's and early 1900's when the railroad came to town and nearby Route 14 was a major east-west road through the western part of the state. But industrialization,the farm crisis,the loss of the railroad,coupled with the opening of interstate 90,put the town in a downward spiral it could never get out of. This old place didn't even get to the days of indoor plumbing....

Gianni Fontana

Reflecting On The Waters Edge...
Karen and I took a long stroll through the park yesterday, the calmness and peacefulness of having virtually no one around was refreshing.
on the far bank many of the trees were showing off their new fall colours while some had shed their leaves completely; making a colourful crunchy carpet under our feet; lining the normally rough pathways with their softness.
The wind tugged at the drier leaves making a rustling sound high up in the branches, occasionally a wind swept leaf would flutter by only to be caught in the branches of a nearby fir tree or to be swept out over the lake, Thier brilliant hues and tones set the water afire with their reflections...
