Today was the Easter Fest in the town of Reutlingen. The theme was the prehistoric age. This is one of a group of actors roaming the streets as Neanderthal man.

Fascinating reconstruction of Neanderthal man in the London Natural History Museum. For many millennia, homo neanderthalensis was living side by side with "modern man" (people like us). In the Museum's display, both modern and neanderthal man are looking at each other. Scholarship, art, and ethics going hand in hand.

The figure of the Neanderthal man is housed in a glass case in the Natural History Museum in London. I have added the sky and the tree in Photoshop to give him a more natural looking surrounding and then converted to black and white.

when will our elected representatives understand that thoughts and prayers are totally inadequate....when will our elected representatives have the courage to tell the neanderthal rifle association to go hell

Moffat County, Colorado.

When several trees in the Craig City Park became diseased and were becoming hazardous, what could have been a blight turned into an annual event that draws thousands and leaves a collection of one-of-a-kind artwork for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the year.

Tree stumps are now brought in each year for the Whittle the Wood Rendezvous, which is so popular that it outgrew City Park and was moved in 2012 to Loudy-Simpson Park south of Craig, CO.

The Gorham's Cave system has been nominated this year for UNESCO world heritage status. These series of caves are yielding a wealth of burried information dating as far back as the Neanderthal occupation. These natural archives lie at sea level on the eastside of the rock of Gibraltar.

another massacre, another school shooting, 18 this year alone in less than 2 months. this is insanity. and once again, another expression of insincere "thoughts and prayers". clearly , our elected republican legislators do not have the courage to stand up to the neanderthal rifle association. tell them with your phone calls, emails and your vote that you have had so much more than enough. hold these incompetent cowards accountable. vote! resist!

This whirlwind of depression swirls around me, as people I considered friends apparently fall away when I need them most... It's an odd world, and one that makes me all the more thankful for the genuine friendships I now know I have. It's never about having time, it's about making time - I believe if it is important, you MAKE time. I am humbled by all that this Flickr journey has brought me, and more so by the friends and people here who continually make time to look at my little attempts at photography. I thank and am grateful to you, and hope you know that your views and patience with my journey mean so much... Thank you all so much...

"Mr. 4 Percent" is a very realistic looking replica of a Homo neanderthalensis in Neanderthal Museum in the Neander Valley near Düsseldorf, Germany, where 16 bones of a Neanderthal were found in 1856. Today's Homo sapiens incorporates 4 percent of the Neanderthals' DNA. The reasons for our destructiveness must be hidden in those other 96 percent...

41,000 years ago (approximately), Kents Cavern, Torquay, Devon, England. One of the first Neanderthal couple's takes shelter in a cave to have a meal.

During these times bears and saber tooth lions still roam the, making dangerous for the Neanderthal people. The first Neanderthal people find shelter and protection in the naturally formed caves where they lived ate and died.

Kent Caverns were first explored around 1825AD and then onwards up to today. Finds include:

* 'Heidleberg man' large flints worked into hand axes nearly half million years old.

* Neanderthal flint tools.

* An early modern human upper jawbone which has been dated at over 41,000 years old. This is the oldest evidence of a modern human settlement in northwestern Europe.

* Ancestral Cave bear

* Cave Lion

* Saber Tooth Cat

The model was built for Bright Bricks and was displayed at Milestones.

Man’s earliest tool was the hand axe. They were usually made of flint or quartz and served as a knife. These examples are about 100,000 years old and were probably made by Neanderthal people.

Neanderthal, 12.09.2017

Getcher Neanderthal hats 'n' tees. Mural at the dinosaur sculpture park at Cabazon, CA, which has lately been taken over by creationists.

60,000 years ago (approximately). A band of Neanderthal hunters attack a mammoth caught in a trap.

The earliest period of human occupation in Britain (known as the Palaeolithic period or Old Stone Age) sees bands of Neanderthals (an extinct species of humans) follow herds of animals across Northern Europe. The landscape would have been sparse.

There is little evidence of their occupation however there are finds which show there presence.

This build was inspired by my old "The Weetabix Illustrated British History Book". where they show a mammoth being trapped in a pit dug out and then covered by branches and grass.

The model was built for Bright Bricks and is on display at Milestones until 27th April 2014

This art object shows the "Neanderthal-Man".

The Neandertal (Valley of the Neander-creek), near Mettmann, is an archaeological find of the Neanderthals.

Artistically and scholarly, this is a brilliant reconstruction of Neanderthal man who used to live in Europe through the Ice Ages until the arrrival of "modern" man some 40 000 years ago. Yet, there was a long period of both types of humans living side by side (and that is responsible for the 2-3% Neanderthal DNA in modern Europeans). Natural History Museum, London
