Marion lends a hand with our course. As the torrential downpour slowed, we made for île-des-Frères, one of the many islands in the river. In fact, this stretch of the Ottawa River is known as the 'Rivière des Mille Îles' - river of a thousand islands.
My camera only remained dry because when the rain started, it went inside my laptop sleeve, into my messenger bag, then the whole package was swaddled in my hoodie. Everything but the camera got wet.

TomTom Places provides a navigation-based search facility, helping drivers to find nearby shops and restaurants and choose the best places to go.
This board, attached to the pilot house, is used to signal oncoming vessels that you intend a starboard to starboard ("2 whistle") passing. The board is displayed vertically and a white blinking light in the center is used during periods of darkness by both vessels during passings. This device is standard on all of the European river ships I have seen.
The Houma Navigational Canal in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana is an outlet for boats to service the oilfield. All kinds of boats pass here, such as tugboats, crewboats, as well as fishing vessels.

This being part of Admiralty Arch, I'm assuming that the figure holds a sextant.
The figure was sculpted by Thomas Brock (1847-1922), and is one of a pair (the other is 'Gunnery').
Admiralty Arch was designed by Sir Aston Webb, and constructed by John Mowlem & Co, completed in 1912.
