The image at left is overexposed by our style guidelines. While we like our images to be bright, we also like to see slight detail in the highlights. The highlights here are overexposed and lacking any detail — the pillows, windows and walls are all blown out.
Windows may be overexposed as long as the interior is balanced, and the bright windows do not distract from the interior scene. Longer exposures which maximize natural light are ideal, but when the interior is very dark, slight use of fill may be necessary to balance the interior scene.
The image at right is more balanced — brightly lit with natural light, windows are bright but do not distract the viewer.
