It is a very special time of the year when autumn colours turn the mountains of Lombardia in northern Italy in golden colours. Moments to enjoy and feel how the season changes.

Sitting beneath a waterfall is so calming. You could relax there for hours. It`s so refreshing and rejuvenating.

Autumn season in Graubünden, Switzerland

The yearly gold rush in the Italian Alps! Golden larches, fall foliage and beautiful lakes all the way!

As fresh snowfall was forecasted, I loaded the 4x4 and drove up Black Forest. Within subzero temperatures I had a fine morning with thick fog in the valley, ice crystals on the trees and hot coffee in my cup. Enjoyed the absolute silence with very little wind and wildlife sounds and no other person around for hours. What a truly outstanding experience.

Im Schwarzwald gibt es viele wunderschöne Wasserfälle und Bachläufe. Viele von ihnen liegen an versteckten oder weniger zugänglichen Orten und sind nicht so sehr überlaufen wie die Touristenmagneten Geroldsau oder Triberg. Gerade die Regenfälle der letzten Wochen und die nach dem langen Winter wieder ergrünende Natur lassen auch kleinere Wasserfälle nun in ihrer vollen Pracht erscheinen und zu einem wunderbaren Fotomotiv werden.

There are many beautiful waterfalls in the Black Forest. Many of them are located in hidden or less accessible places and are not as crowded as the tourist magnets Geroldsau or Triberg. Especially the rainfalls of the last weeks and the greening nature after the long winter let even smaller waterfalls now appear in their full splendor and become a wonderful photo motif.

Spider web in autumn

The spider webs are so easy to spot in autumn because many spiders are only then old enough to weave such large webs. It comes from one of the many young or small adult spiders that are out and about in autumn.

Lago di Carezza is world famous for its deep green water in which the mountains of the impressive Latemar massif reflects.

And there is also a story behind it:

A beautiful water maid once lived in Lake Karer. She often sat on the bank, braided her blonde braids and sang softly to herself. The warlock of Masaré heard her sing and fell in love with the mermaid. He risked all of his power to kidnap her, but the water maiden was never caught. So the warlock asked his girlfriend, the witch Langwerda, for help. Langwerda advised him to disguise himself as a jeweler, to rainbow from the rose garden to the Latemar and then to Lake Karer to attract and kidnap the virgin. The warlock followed the advice, but forgot to dress up. The water fairy marveled at the sheen of the rainbow and the many gems. However, she also noticed the magician who was hiding on the shore and quickly went back into the Karer See. Since the day she never showed up again. The warlock was so angry about the failure of the planned kidnapping that in his heartache he tore the rainbow from the sky, smashed it and threw all the rainbow pieces with the jewels into the lake: That is the reason why Lake Karer is still in the most splendid today Rainbow colors shimmer and the Ladin people call it "Lec de ergobando", the rainbow lake.

After a long time I returned to the three sequoia trees not far from my home. Back in the days I found it too hard to shoot. But now, with some growth - both the trees and me - I found a pleasing composition. It is a view I have learned from shooting the giants in California: You rarely can show them in their whole beauty. It was a freezing morning with -6°C, some soft fog and the snow which really adds up to the image.

At the beach

When the water is draining on the beach, you always discover something special or something normal. The beach is a treasure trove for macro photography

The first colors can be seen at the edges of the streams, such as here on the Elz / Eifel

At the North Sea you can always find wonderful motifs in the morning or evening but also after low tide or high tide.

Bleuling discovered butterflies in an old quarry.

First, I visited a fallen tree on a hillside, but as the subject didn't work out as expected, I came down to the riverside. Here I found a more pleasing fallen tree with a nice wintry coating. Despite the photo isn't sharp from front to back, I quite like the scenery with the wild trees in the background. At the scene, the water of the river Enz was flushing and from time to time you hear the chatter of ducks.
