At nearly 8,000' Bryce Canyon is susceptible to every form of weather imaginable. The warm palette of colors that embody the walls, windows and hoodoos of Bryce fit the warm weather of summer to a tee.
When winter comes, however, with the occasional heavy snowfall, the cognitive dissonance of being surrounded by warm colored rocks topped by bright white snow in freezing cold temperatures adds to the surreal splendor that makes this place so magical.

This is a reflection in Carters Pond that I inverted. The leaves are already in the water not falling. Carters Pond in Prince William Forest Park. It was converted from exhausted farmland in the mid 1930's to a National Park. The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) renewed the land planting trees and other vegetation. They also built cabins and campgrounds here.-- #CartersPond #NPS #ReflectionInverted #PrinceWilliamForestPark #NationalParkService #reflection #abstract #ć± #反射

A sunset at Lake Cresecent in the Olympic National Park in the state of Washington, United States. I was heading up into the Pacific Peninsula and well into my fifth month of overlanding (traveling and living in the public forests and deserts) doing photography when I captured this image.

Fall viewing of Dark Hollow Falls in Shenandoah National Park (October, 2016). Doubt I'll make it this year but it's a wonderful in the fall.
It was very important to geotag this impressive industrial building or my British contacts will assume it is in Salford or Bradford . In fact it was built on the banks for the river Merrimack in Lowell Massachusetts . It certainly looks very attractive with its orderly pattern of windows. i suspect it was not much fun working there in 1835 the sound of hundreds off looms would have been horrendous
The Boott Cotton Mills complex contains mills built from the mid-1830s reflecting the early use of waterpower and steam power. Today, the restored mill complex houses the Boott Cotton Mills Museum, a part of Lowell National Historical Park. It is a fascinating museum.

Early morning light on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., across from the Washington Monument. (11/06/2016).
. . . Here is a picture I took last April near the Visitor's Center on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, looking towards Maricopa Point. The following picture (in the comments) is the picture from the same spot in the sign put there by the National Park Service. Come on NPS, use my picture please!
Have a great weekend Facebook and Flickr friends!
Walking in the National Mall in Washington DC today, rarely post things on the same day I post, the nature of my ADHD usually prevents that, but this image doesn’t need any tweaking, colors beautiful, wonderful reflection in the reflection pool of the Lincoln Monument taken from the perspective of the Washington Monument. The World War II Memorial in the foreground. In DC with accompanying my sweet damsel.

This was the first time I’ve been to DC. Waking up before the sun does, paid well with this photo. I liked it a lot, I hope you do too. Thank you for your visit and Happy Friyayyyy :)

One last @mesaverdenps shot for the road- we didn’t see much wildlife on this trip, but we did get to see one of the animals I was eager to see! A collared lizard darting over the rocks and looking to warm up and sun himself in the summer heat.
Don’t be fooled by the recent “make America beautiful again” executive order that’s been signed in the face of the budget bill being passed and seemingly restoring funding for the parks that’s been cut. It’s just a political maneuver to make this administration look like it has to solutions to problems that it has created. Keep calling and speaking out.
Mesa Verde is in the southwestern corner of Colorado was constructed throughout the thirteenth century by cliff-dwelling Ancestral Puebloans. Cliff Palace, which is the largest cliff-dwelling in North America, is believed to have sustained a population of about 100 people until a drought lasting longer than two decades forced relocation. Mesa Verde is still thought to inhabit the spirits of the ancestors of the Pueblo. @visitmesaverde @mesaverdefoundation

Established in 1927, the lifeboat station at Drakes Bay was put under the command of the 12 year old U.S. Coast Guard. Heavy motorized lifeboats were launched from the boathouse to the water by marine railway when they were sent on rescue missions.
Eventually the quick response of Coast Guard cutters and helicopters replaced the perilous lifeboat stations.
In 1968 it was decommissioned, then transferred to the National Park Service in 1969.
The early pioneers of the Appalachians, such as John P. Cable, set up grist mills to harness the power of water.
Crested Pool is a hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. The spring is 42 feet (12.8 m) deep. It is named for the "crest" which surrounds the pool. Although it is considered a spring, Crested Pool sometimes erupts like a geyser.
Many years ago, the Pearl River flowed here. The river changed course. A shallow area was created by the deposition of sediments as the river retreated. During periodic low water, seedlings of water-tolerant cypress and tupelo trees gained a foothold. The trees you see today are a result.
Water tupelo and bald cypress trees can live in deep water for long periods. After taking root in the summer when the swamp is dry, the seedlings can stay alive in water deep enough to kill other plants.
The trail at this location leads through an abandoned river channel. As the channel fills with silt and vegetation, black willow, sycamore, red maple, and other trees will gradually replace the bald cypress and water tupelo. Also if you look closely you may see juvenile alligators sunning themselves on floating logs and other vegetation.
This location is also a trailhead for the Yockanookany Section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail. This trailhead is located directly across the paved Parkway from the Cypress Swamp site. Hikers may hike south 14.1 miles to the West Florida Boundary, north 8.9 miles to the Yockanookany Trailhead, or any distance they chose on this out and back trail.
