I was on one of my un-navigated, directionless walkabouts with nothing particular in mind when I happened around a corner to be presented with the above, behind a row of private garages, it struck me with this little seat propped onto of these tyres, unlike the parasites we suffer unto as what we call a monarchy, living amongst stolen gold and tax evading luxury at our expense, by merely being born of chance, who pay for nothing in the middle of a cost of living crisis, flying around in private jets whilst the rest of us are soon to be ordered to stay at home thanks to the climate change hoax!

I hope everyone is well and so as always thank you!

Narcissism

Today there are few female artists who are more visible to a wide range of international audiences than Yayoi Kusama, who was born in 1929 in Japan. Kusama is a self-taught artist who now chooses to live in a private Tokyo mental health facility, while prolifically producing art in various media in her studio nearby. Her highly constructed persona and self-proclaimed life-long history of insanity have been the subject of scrutiny and critiques for decades. Art historian Jody Cutler places Kusama’s oeuvre “in dialogue with the psychological state known as narcissism,” as “narcissism is both the subject and the cause of Kusama’s art, or in other words, a conscious artistic element related to content.”[1] It is within this context that we examine Kusama and her infamous Narcissus Garden (narcissism is, in part, the egotistic admiration of one's self).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her Narcissus Garden continues to live on. It has been commissioned and re-installed at various settings, including the Brazilian business tycoon Bernardo de Mello Paz’s Instituto Inhotim (left), Central Park in New York City, as well as retail booths at art fairs.
The re-creation of Narcissus Garden has erased the notion of political cynicism and social critique; instead, those shiny balls, now made of stainless steel and carrying hefty price tags, have become a trophy of prestige and self-importance. Originally intended as the media for an interactive performance between the artist and the viewer, the objects are now regarded as valuable commodities for display.
Macro Mondays: #ReadyForTheDay
Size of the frame: 1 x 1 cm / 0,4 x 0,4 inches
Onomatopoeia, also referred to as "Echoism" (not egoism!; actually it's the opposite of egoism, or, rather narcissism, but that's an altogether different matter), is "a word that phonetically imitates, resembles or suggests the sound that it describes" (Wikipedia). In German it's also called "Lautmalerei" which could be translated as "sound painting". Not only are the English and German words for the sound that is captured here very similar: gurgle, burble, gargle, bubble (= gurgeln, blubbern). But it's very similar in French (gargouiller, gargariser ), Italian (fare i gargarismi), Dutch (gorgelen), Romanian (gargară), Swedish (att gurgla), Portuguese (gargarejar) or Spanish (hacer gárgaras), furthermore grgljati (Croatian), bublat (Czech), gargalizál (Hungarian), gurglovať (Slovakian), gargara (Turkish)... I would imagine that there are similar words in other languages, too, after all the sound we all make when we gurgle is similar, but of course I can't verify it when it comes to languages that use their own script. And I should stop to bore you with my burbling about gargling anyway.
Photo infos: What you see is a small part of the bottom of a Marvis mouthwash bottle which I shook to make the bubbles (you've guessed it!). Lightsources were natural daylight, handheld LED spotlight and handheld LED flashlight (the blue light). The cable release which I bought just the other day (for blue hour shooting with Sabine.R yesterday!) proved to be way more practical than the 2 sec. self-timer I've used for my macros so far, because now I can use both hands to hold lights or other items. OK, nuff said ;-) Oh, please press "Z"!
Thank you for reading this far, and have a fresh Macro (and Whit for those of you who celebrate) Monday!
Der Klang des Morgens
Onomatopoesie ist der aus dem Griechischen stammende Begriff für Lautmalerei. Was Ihr hier seht, verwenden viele von uns nach dem morgendlichen Zähneputzen zum.... Gurgeln. Mundwasser, in diesem Falle geschüttelt, nicht gerührt. Gurgeln klingt nicht nur bei jedem von uns ganz ähnlich, auch die Wörter in den verschiedenen europäischen Sprachen sind einander ähnlich (bitte oben im englischen Text gucken) und umschreiben das Geräusch auf ähnliche Weise.
Hier erwies sich der erst vor wenigen Tagen erworbene Kabelauslöser (für's Blaue-Stunde-Fotografieren mit Sabine.R - es war toll, Fotos folgen in Kürze!) als äußerst nützlich, da ich nun in beiden Händen eine zusätzliche Lichtquelle halten und trotzdem entspannt und verwacklungsfrei auslösen kann.
Bitte "Z" drücken! Danke ;-)
On clear nights we are so fortunate to be treated to a magic light show. It's all pure physics and Sir Isaac Newton explained everything in his groundbreaking work, "Opticks: or, A Treatise of the Reflexions, Refractions, Inflexions and Colours of Light " (1704). But we now also know that Newton was a secret alchemist. www.wpr.org/isaac-newtons-secret-alchemy
In fact, Newton wrote more about theology and ancient philosophy than he did of pure science. These documents were hidden away in a trunk which came to light after his death. Unfortunately, these facts have been suppressed over the years so as not to tarnish the name of the greatest scientist of all time. There was more than a little Prospero in Newton.
My point is simply to echo Shakespeare's magnificent line from Hamlet: "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
My argument (which I won't take up your time with today) is that when humans began to sever the umbilical cord with Nature, and became city dwellers dependent on our technological creations, we looked into the rockpool and saw a reflection and fell in love with ourselves (Narcissus). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_(mythology)
"Man is the measure of all things!" became our dominant cultural mantra. And we've been paying for it ever since. It is no surprise then that people have their most mystical experiences when Nature is allowed to overwhelm our minds. The heart is always a stronger and better guide to the Truth than the head.
Intuition. The things we humans were capable of before we invented language and rationality would truly astound. Prospero's magic indeed!
For those who wish to take these thoughts further, try and track down Steve Taylor's "The Fall: The evidence for a Golden Age, 6,000 years of insanity, and the dawning of a new era" (Orca Books, 2005). It will blow your mind.
In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a hunter from Thespiae in Boeotia who was known for his beauty.
He was proud, in that he disdained those who loved him.
Nemesis noticed this behaviour and attracted Narcissus to a pool, where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, not realising it was merely an image.
Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus lost his will to live.
He stared at his reflection until he died.
Narcissus is the origin of the term narcissism, a fixation with oneself and one's physical appearance or public perception.
These ones here, with their salmon trumpet, is a fragrant variety.
I (maybe wrongly) make a distinction, based on that fact, between Daffodils and Narcissus...
... making images like this one? Of course it is a 'true' image. It does show the beauty that surrounds us. But it does not show what really goes on in terms of the relationship between us and nature. What goes really on is a kind of anthropocentric narcissism that is responsible for the progressive demolition of nature on a planetary scale. Therefore, should an image like this one come with a health warning such as "only those who fight for the preservation of nature are also allowed to enjoy its beauty"?
Trump's self-serving, his lack of compassion, and his sadism are all part of a psychological disorder known as "malignant narcissism." Much has been written about this disorder in relation to Trump. A fine description of this mental disease can be found here:
One day Narcissus was walking in the woods when Echo the mountain nymph, saw him, fell deeply in love, and followed him. Narcissus sensed he was being followed and shouted, "Who's there?" Echo repeated, "Who's there?" She eventually revealed her identity and attempted to embrace him. He stepped away and told her to leave him alone. She was heartbroken and spent the rest of her life in lonely glens until nothing but an echo sound remained of her. Nemesis the goddess of revenge, decided to punish Narcissus. During the summer, he was thirsty after hunting, and the goddess lured him to a pool where he leaned upon the water and saw himself in the bloom of youth. Narcissus didn’t realize it was merely his own reflection and fell deeply in love with it, as if it was somebody else. Unable to leave the allure of his image, he eventually realized that his love could not be reciprocated and he lost his will to live, and perished.
"Echo and Narcissus is an myth from Ovid's Metamorphoses, a Latin mythological epic from the Augustan Age. The introduction of the myth of the mountain nymph Echo into the story of Narcissus, the beautiful youth who rejected sexuality and falls in love with his own reflection, appears to have been Ovid's invention." The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders lists nine key symptoms of narcissism. To be diagnosed, a person must exhibit at least five of these traits:
Grandiose sense of self-importance
Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
Belief that they are “special” and unique
Need for excessive admiration
Sense of entitlement
Interpersonally exploitative behavior
Lack of empathy
Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of them
Demonstration of arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes
I didn't even ask for one, but I have been longing for one. And then one magically appears at my doorstep last night.
Thank you so very much Rachel.
While we were there at Svartifoss waterfall within Skaftafell mountain range in Southeast Iceland, I observed at least three large tourist groups and countless individual travellers hitting the viewing platform, shooting their ten obligatory been-there-done-that Me-and-Skaftafoss arse-towards-the-landscape shots and disapear in quick succession to get to their next tourist destination. I mean, if you have to clock ten sights per day and Iceland within five days, there is nothing stopping you right?!
