We wanted to feed squirrels and green parakeets in the Hyde park, but during the breeding season, they shun people. Only pigeons, jackdaws and crows arrive to be fed. This young crow came very close to us.

A little back-story....
We have a family of Ground Squirrels that are quite entertaining. Over time I've befriended this little guy somewhat; he lets me get really close, about 10 ft. Long-story short, I've learned that if I talk baby-talk to him and make little chirping noises he seems to trust me. whereas most of the other ground squirrels in the area really keep their distance.
This morning I grabbed my 70-200 and went out looking for him. He was behind the garage scratching in the ground. I watched him burry a nut and then dig it back up and munch on it. you can see the hole he dug just behind the rock. It was a real joy to watch him in his natural environment up close.

A non-native species in the UK, a migrant from America, looks cute enough but they have had a disastrous impact on our native Red squirrel. The greys compete wit the reds for food and, the greys carry a virus called squirrelpox, and although harmless to the greys, it is lethal for the reds

An old rusted nut, seized on a threaded shaft, that used to support a gate. The nut is just 15mm, flat to flat.
