From yesterday, this house which lies next to Bournemouth Gardens caught my eye (I like the deco shape), and lovely autumnal trees!

the overnight North Star between Chicago and Duluth crossed the Mississippi River departing Minneapolis at 820 AM on April 20 1981 on what was the old Northern Pacific double track passenger line Third Terminal Subdivision between 35th Ave in Northtown and 1st Street North in Minneapolis. It later became part of the Burlington Northern Minnesota Division Fifth Subdivision and was used by Amtrak as a through route until April, 1981 when their trains to Midway Station were rerouted via Park Junction.

US National Arboretum
This tree was grown from seed collected by D.C. Shen in 1968 from trees in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Those trees had been collected in the wild in China's Guang Dung province 300 years before and planted in Hong Kong by immigrants. The trees from which the seeds came are up to 55' tall and measure 24" DBH, exhibiting a slow rate of growth. (DBH is a standard arborist term meaning 'diameter at breast height'; breast height is defined as 1.35m/4.5 ft above the ground)

CSXT 1 Leads Q514 out of Waycross on a cool February Afternoon. Rumor has it this engine has been renumbered to accommodate a repainted F40 that now sports the number 1 position on the roster.
The number 17 is often indicated as being a lucky number. While my birthday falls on a 17th, I don't think it has brought me extra luck, but maybe I just don't know. What it means in these skiffs I have no idea.
This car was one of the vehicles on display at the Heritage Motor Centre's Roadshow at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995. Known as 'Old Number One', it's not the first MG to be built, but apparently it's the first one to be built with the purpose of competing in motor sports events. The Morris Cowley bullnose origin of the car is evident and you can read here the MG Owners' Club story of the car.
When the British Leyland Motor Corporation was set up in 1968 it was decided to find out how many old vehicles were held by the various companies which were part of the new Corporation. Nearly 100 were found and in 1975 Leyland Historic Vehicles was formed to maintain this fleet of vehicles. The British Motor Heritage Trust was formed in 1983 which then led to the Heritage Motor Centre museum at Gaydon being opened in 1993. In 2000 the trust expanded to include the whole of the British motor industry and the museum now has a collection of nearly 300 vehicles, and after a major refurbishment in 2015/16 it reopened as the British Motor Museum.
I finally managed to get out with my camera yesterday for the first time in nearly a month. For a while now I've been wanting a shot of 'the batman building' as everyone refers to it as, but on of the whole building. Whenever you see this building you always see a shot looking upwards - in fact similar to my last post (Number 7).
The problem is to get all of the building without all the surrounding buildings you need to be around 10mm and the distortion on the verticals then becomes extreme - which is sometimes ok - but not in this case. So I went about this shoot like my recent shot of Canary Wharf shot - stitching two heavily vertically corrected landscape shots together as a vertorama - the result was then cropped square for isolation - the surrounding buildings are just out of frame. Its taken a lot of processing but its what I've had in my mind for a while. No long exposure this time, the security guards were on the prowl so didn't have time to setup properly.

Main story

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

まず、語る前に最近の音楽の傾向について。

１ 内省的。 独りで部屋にこもって、壁に向かってぶつぶつ呟く感じ。
２ 詩が素敵。曲調に合わせて、作者の世界観がゆらゆら揺らめく世界観。
３ 奇想天外。作者の前後のアルバムから推測できない驚きが見える。
４ 詩。楽曲。プロデュース。アルバム全体のコンセプトが統一されている。
５ 透明感があると個人的には惹かれる。

As mentioned on Friday, a number of us Marys are otherwise occupied this week, and hence we may not have a posting every day this week. We thought therefore that we'd give the class some extra work - to keep you occupied for a period :) No better a challenge therefore (hopefully) than a "location unknown" image from the O'Connor Collection. The catalogue entry for this puzzler includes a description: "Facing the camera is a man and child, standing beside a row of barrels laid out on the ground. Beyond the inlet, the sea is visible in the distance". But which inlet? What sea? Who's yer man? What's in them there barrels? Now eyes down on your work until I'm back from the principal's office....
With little more than topology and geology to go on, and using some form of investigative witchcraft, derangedlemur almost immediately identified this as Pulleen Harbour on the Beara Peninsula in County Cork. The sheer speed and near savant nature of this feat left most of us dumbstruck. But not John Spooner, who employed other location driven trickery to spot this image in an Irish Independent news article of 1909. This implies a date of December 1908 to January 1909 (but certainly before Jan 1909). While not fully confirmed, the Independent article (which gives the image credit to "Daniel McMonagle") suggests that the barrels are flotsam from the wreck of the SS Irada. This Gulf Transport Line cargo ship left Texas in November 1908, bound for Liverpool. Carrying a cargo of raw and baled cotton, the Irada hit rocks near Mizen Head, and much of her cargo washed into Pulleen Harbour, near Castletownbere.....

Number 3 slip at Chatham Historic Dockyard. One of the most amazing wooden buildings I have visited. When it was built in 1838 this was Europe’s largest wide span timber structure.
I was persuaded by my better half to leave the colour in this (despite a strong temptation to go mono). Apparently the warmth of the wood shines through. Hope the red fire extinguisher is not too distracting though :)
Early one morning I went walking around the streets of Boston and I found this firehouse. They were looking at me a little suspiciously while taking photos, but they let me be... I think they could tell that I thought firehouses and firemen were pretty cool. Firemen can see that kinda thing in people!

This is an *original* watercolor painting that is 8" x 10" on handmade watercolor paper. The entire piece of paper is 10.25" x 15". There is a thin coat of Kamar Varnish for protection. This piece is not matted or framed although it can be for an additional fee. Numbered, signed and dated on the back of painting.
