Closing Bell : After a volatile day, the market ended lower dragged by banks. The Sensex closed down 114.77 points or 0.4 percent at 28106.21 and the Nifty was down 34.40 points or 0.4 percent at 8709.55. About 1367 shares have advanced, 1513 shares declined, and 132 shares are unchanged. GAIL, Reliance, HUL, ONGC and HDFC were top gainers while Cipla, NTPC, M&M, Infosys and ICICI Bank were losers in the Sensex.
The S&P #BSE #Sensex is trading at 32,179 down 94 points, while #Nifty is trading at 10,030 down 26 points. A total of 52 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 19 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The BSE #Midcap Index is trading down 0.26% at 15,559 while BSE #Smallcap Index is trading down 0.46% at 16,035. Some buying activity is seen in Auto, Industrials and IT indices, while Energy, FMCG and Finance indices are showing weakness on BSE. Hindalco, Tata Steel and Vedanta are among the gainers while Bharti Infratel, IOC and NTPC are losing on the #NSE.

The UPA government has come to power at the Centre on the ~asis of a people's mandat that was not only a thorough rejection of the RSS's fascistic design of dividing our country on communal lines and setting up a Hindu Rashtra in its place but also a1rejection of the anti-people .

The latter aspect of the mandate was clearly demonstrated by the complete rout of State governments like those of Chandrababu Naidu in "Andhra Pradesh and S.M. Krishna in Kamataka which had pursued these policies with the greatest ruthlessness. It was this massive assertion of people's anger against the policies of liberalization which forced bourgeois parties, including the Congress which had originated these policies in our country in the first place, to give a place to popular demands like an 100-day employment guarantee scheme, revitalization of the PDS and increased public expenditure on the social sector a place in the Common Minimum Programme of the new .

However, the first Budget of this government and the experience of the first few months of .
