Sie ist das Zentrum des 1990 gegründeten Nationalparks Hamburgisches Wattenmeer (NPHW), zu dem, neben dem Wattgebiet, auch die beiden Nachbarinseln gehören. Neben der Prägung Neuwerks
durch die jahrhundertealten wirtschaftlichen Interessen Hamburgs an einer der meistbefahrenen Schifffahrtsstraßen sind die Insel
und das Watt ein maritimer Lebensraum für Flora und Fauna.

Dr. Chong graduated with MBBS from the NUS in 2004 and obtained his MRCPCH(UK) in 2010. He completed his pediatric training in KK Hospital and was accredited as a specialist for Paediatric Medicine in 2013. He subsequently obtained his Diploma in Practical Dermatology in 2014 and the Master of Science in Practical Dermatology in 2016 from Cardiff University, United Kingdom. He did his subspecialty training under Professor Alain Taïeb at the Department of Paediatric Dermatology, National Centre for Rare Skin Disorders, Hôpital Pellégrin-Enfants at Bordeaux, France. Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, he was a Consultant in the Department of General Paediatrics as well as the Dermatology Service at KKH.

Last year during National Public Health Week, students at the School of Rural Public Health participated in a number of activities to promote public health, including a bone marrow/blood drive and a fun run. The photo above shows a student at the school working at the bone marrow registry, which helps doctors find donors for their patients in need of life-saving transplants. The school will be hosting a drive during National Public Health Week 2010, as well.
