There's little going on in the back-alleys of Accrington as the 10.20 Blackpool - Colne (2N18) two-car Pacer unit makes its way through the town on a bitterly cold, but sunny, January day.
The first outing, and shot, of 2017 - apologies if you like your trains a bit closer!

Young leaves of hosta ‘Northern Exposure' with fresh raindrops.
Hosta (Plantain lily, ’Giboushi’ in Japanese) is a genus of flowering plants in the asparagus family. ‘Northern Exposure' is a cultivar that produces blue-green leaves with lime-cream variegation, descended from Hosta sieboldiana native to Japan.
If this street looks familiar to you, it probably is. It was shown from this angle often in a famous TV show in the 90s. Maybe you know now. And as a bonus you can try to identify the cars from the 90s here too.

Roslyn, WA.
A bit of a "dramatic" view of the famous Roslyn Cafe painted sign.
This is "famous" because it was shown with the opening titles at the very beginning of "Northern Exposure" TV show that aired 110 episodes between 1990 and 1995 on CBS. You can see the opening titles and the sign in this video from the show
The show is set in Cicely, Alaska. In the show the sign said "Roslyn Cafe" because it was owned by Roslyn (one of the characters). The sign should really have said "Roslyn's Cafe" to be grammatically correct and make sense with the show settings and story. They worked around it finding a creative explanation of why it just said "Roslyn Cafe".
They invented a story that town developer Maurice had hired a nomadic hippie to paint the mural, and that he was so "high on the weed" that skipped the " 's " in the mural, and Maurice had to paint it on himself (in the show they added a tiny "'s" between Roslyn and Cafe). They even created an entire episode explaining how Cicely, Alaska was named after a gay woman whose partner, Roslyn, got a cafe named after her.
Storstappen Island, Norway
Please note: All photos at Storstappen Island are taken from a rocking boat with 5 foot waves, me hanging on at a rail at the back end handholding a Nikon 200-500mm lens; 750mm equivalent on a D500 body..LOL...much fun!!.
For interest value I've uploaded the shot I was hoping to get today before the sun, contrary to the weather forecasts, decided to put in an appearance.
I know folks understandably like sunny shots (and I can't say I'm not one of them) but I'd have been more than happy to snap a Colas liveried Tug in these conditions - particularly as, for me, it just encapsulates a gritty bleak no-nonsense northern Pennine town at the wrong end of the year.
In the previous upload I went for the exact same composition (give or take seeing as it was hand-held), but in the sunnier offering eventually widened the view a tad because I figured the conditions kind of warranted it.
I'll leave this up for a while before taking it down. Or maybe I'll just try clone in the Tug from the sunny shot!
