Not the best shot, but I have not seen a mature male in years, so seeing one in the distance, with crappy light was actually quite exciting. The other good thing about today is that my Z9 is still working after I DROPPED IT OUT MY CAMERA BAG BECAUSE I HAD NOT ZIPPED IT UP PROPERLY. The camera hit a wood floor from about 5 feet. I am slightly less STUPID than before.

The Northern Lights are undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural phenomena. With solar activity approaching its peak, there was a good chance of seeing some. This was the case in March 2024, although the sky was not as spectacular as it will be in October 2024. The Lofoten Islands offer some good observation sites.
The northern cardinal is a North American bird in the genus Cardinalis; it is also known colloquially as the redbird or common cardinal.

Here in this stump he has several voles stashed. When he first came to retrieve one he positioned himself over the stash much like a bird sitting on eggs perhaps to warm them up a bit before consuming them.. It was bitter cold that morning. This bird never ceases to amaze me.
As with other duck species, Female Northern Pintails may lack the fancy plumage of the males, they're still quite lovely as this image shows.
This subtle beauty was spending her winter along the gulf coast of Texas along with large numbers of her Pintail relatives.

The Northern Parula is one of our smallest warblers, and among the most colorful too! These birds are early Spring migrants and they prefer to nest in places where they can find Spanish moss or beard lichen in which they can hide their nest. Photographed on Hilton Head Island, SC, USA

Adult gannets are large and bright white with black wingtips. They are distinctively shaped with a long neck and long pointed beak, long pointed tail, and long pointed wings. At sea they flap and then glide low over the water, often travelling in small groups. They feed by flying high and circling before plunging into the sea. They breed in significant numbers at only a few localities and so is an Amber List species.
What they eat:
Fish.
