The NHS Spitfire flying over Halifax - The Calderdale Royal Hospital
(Edited - not the best shot as it was very overcast and grey ! but fortunately it flew through a rare bit of sun !!)
On our last full day of the trip, we visited this National Historic Site on the Washington side of the Columbia River. It had long been a Native gathering place for trading and socializing, which continued with the early European traders. The site changed with the eventual American settlers and the opening of the Pacific NW. The site has several well-preserved buildings and numerous gardens. Mt Hood is just visible in the distance.

Last night Smeaton’s Tower on Plymouth Hoe was lit up blue in tribute to the NHS who have been working tirelessly during the Covid19 pandemic. So I took a wander up there and got a few shots. The lighthouse looked absolutely stunning and I felt it was a really lovely tribute to all of our amazing healthcare workers.

Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” is playing the background while I’m safety cocooned by my computer trying to find the words to describe this photo. In the real world, teams of people are tirelessly dedicated to fighting a global pandemic. Under the media’s spotlight we hear daily accounts about their long shifts, their struggle to get the right equipment, their need to they help others despite the personal risk, the pain they feel as sometimes a battle is lost. But they have always done this. It is not new. It is just that now that we understand the fight they have been always been waging on our behalf. We owe them. It only now we see the real heroes in our society. I salute you.

A rainbow for all our incredible NHS staff who are working tirelessly to help and look after us all during this Pandemic, we thank you all .
I spotted this tribute to the NHS and had to capture it. The Rainbow is being put in windows all across the UK show appreciation for all the health workers that are risking their lives daily.
To be fair, this picture was taken in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester and there was a proper Ambulance in attendance at the incident. As it says on the cycle this is a quick response unit enabling the rider to speedily work their way through traffic to reach the accident or whatever may be waiting for them. These guys do a sterling job and save lives and this picture is not meant to be derogatory in any shape or form. If you know the state of the NHS system in the UK you will understand the irony of the title…!

It's nice to see A&B Council giving a shout-out the NHS.
It would have been better if they had recognized NHS Scotland too.

The NHS is not a single UK-wide system. NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, and Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland are separate, devolved health services. NHS Scotland is run by the Scottish Government, with its own policies, funding, and priorities, while NHS England is overseen by the UK Government’s Department of Health and Social Care. Two iconic warbirds, side by side - the vibrant “Wacky Wabbit” Harvard and the NHS tribute Spitfire. Both aircraft honour the past in their own way: one as a rugged WWII trainer, the other as a symbol of national gratitude. A striking scene that blends aviation history with modern-day meaning.
