Strewth, this one takes me waayyy back!
I made this sculpture out of oven fireable modelling clay in the mid-1980s after seeing Wolfgang Peterson's film "The Neverending Story". Falkor, was the dog-like flying luck dragon in the film. Kinda liked the way he flew....enjoying the wind in his face and all that. Bit like a woofer with his head stuck out the window of a car, come to think of it! Reminded me a bit of the dragon in the "Bone" graphic novel, for that matter, though less dour! I was quite chuffed at the way the fur came out, and I used an opalescent nail polish to help give the beasty a bit of a magical sheen.
I'm a fan of some of Peterson's other flicks, especially "Das Boot", which is about a little old submarine Captain who lived in a shoe. One day, he was eaten by an Atlantic Wolf Pack...but, that's another story! I also liked Peterson's "The Perfect Storm" but thought "Enemy Mine" and the irritatingly disappointing "Troy" were inadequate adapations of brilliant source material. (Still, Sean Bean as Odysseus, nice casting!) Wonder how Peterson will do with "Ender's Game?"
In the mid-80s I was more into films like "Aliens" but found time to enjoy "Neverending Story", mostly for the silly but catchy theme song, which in the American version of the film was composed by Giorgio "Electric Dreams" Moroder with lyrics by Keith Forsey.

I must have enjoyed the film well enough. I went out and read Michael Ende's original novel.

A labyrinth spanning decades...
Overwhelmed by the endlessness of it all.
Shot in an impromptu moment of inspiration via my mobile phone.
I plan return at some point to take more photos with a proper camera.
I was only able to get a few snaps of the books. Just wait til you see all of the *other* stuff.
I could (and just might) spend days in there...
Can you guess what two shows I watched today? I needed a new wallpaper for my desktop and thought I'd make something simple. Watch out folders, you're about to be sploded!

Falcor in front of Munich's 90' backlit blue screen. B/S supervisor was Stan Sayer who was the Technicolor colour consultant on the first big blue screen epic, The Thief Of Baghdad with Sabu in 1940.
Swamps are hard to build..
I wanted to use that great head for something and this seemed to fit the bill so I started building and all was going smooth until I realized that I didn't have a clue how to make a swamp scene like in the movie with dead branches everywhere in the mud.
Anyway, this is how far I got before calling it quits. Poor Artax and Atreyu.

Sorry... I really can't translate this to English - and I don't have the English version of the book. BTW: If you only saw the movie - forget it! Get the book!

Little known fact, in 1984 I was 16 years old and an extra in The NeverEnding Story with Noah Hathaway. The funny story behind this was that the director kept telling me to go Camera Left and I kept going to the left (my left). I got yelled at after the 3rd time, but they still kept it in.
This was filmed in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia and really fun. I was working for a company called ExtraOrdinary Casting and I was a 'professional' extra.
