Black Bear (Ursus americanus) walking on giant boulders in front of the waterfall on Neets Creek in Alaska.

When Caleb and I asked the woman who sold this to me what mineral it was, she said, "teetaneet," but it doesn't look like any titanite I've ever seen. It's bugging me because I know I've seen it before, but I can't remember what it is. We've got a few at the nature lab.

A Black Bear (Ursus americanus) stands ready to start fishing in the cold waters of Neets Creek in southeast Alaska. These bears are by and large solitary creatures so they make sure of where they can fish if other bears are present which was the case here.

The Neet Covered Bridge spans Little Raccoon Creek on a bypassed section of Bridgeton Road north of Bridgeton in Parke County, Indiana. Built in 1904 by Joseph J. Daniels, this 144 foot burr arch truss bridge is only open to pedestrians. Also known as the DIetrich Bridge, this covered bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This is bridge No. 5 on Day 2 of my Covered Bridge Excursion. For Totally Texture Tuesday.

After catching this female salmon, a black bear extracted and ate the eggs before eating other parts. I was interested and fascinated by how selective he was. The image was taken in Neet's Bay, Alaska.

Chum Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) on its last legs so to speak. This guy has grown teeth to help it fight to the end during the annual Chum or Dog Salmon spawning run on the Inside Passage of Alaska. Taken underwater at Neets Bay.

There was quite a bit of algae in the water as well as bits and pieces of decaying salmon. All this combined to give the water a brownish hue which accounts for the overall coloration of the image.

When the bear stepped into the water, the salmon panicked, kicking water into a froth as they escaped. Image taken in Alaska on the Inside Passage from a small skiff.

Science has many dark secrets.

There are none as dark when you get some clown that thinks it is a scientist and there is nothing to stop it.

The screams and wails in the dark halls are the only progress that it seems to have.

The progress must be made, it can always get more Test Subjects.

On my way down home from St Abbs, I spotted the sign for Scremerston and Cocklawburn beach, and knowing i'd seen shots from here, I thought i'd check it out for myself. Yes it was the wrong time of the day really, sunrise would be wicked here, but thought a recce could do no harm.

I just so happened to mention it on Facebook at the time, and in jumped the fantastic Anita, with directions to these fab rocks, and Jonathan with spots to check out along the way too. This place is a treasure trove I think, and one to certainly get back to for sunrise one day.

If you haven't done already, please check out the fantastic work of Anita and Jonathan

Salmon trapped in a tidal pool at Neets Bay, Alaska roil the water as they mill about wating on an incoming tide to release them. This Dog or Chum Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) shows us its teeth that are grown during the spawn. Because these teeth look like K9 teeth, the fish is referred to as a Dog Salmon.
