About this photograph.

This is the American actor Antonio Juan Fargas, whom is famous for playing the role of Huggy Bear in the 1970s US television police series Starsky & Hutch.

I took those photographs with my Nikon D1 DSLR, because at that time, I did not have the D200 until some years later.

Here, in the photographs, he is seen posing inside a replica of a Ford Gran Torino, painted in bright red, with white strips, at the fan convention, for the official and press photographers.

Antonio was born in New York, on 14 August 1946, and is one of the 11 children, his father was from Puerto Rico and his mother was from Trinidad and Tobago.

He grew up in East Harlem parts of New York, and his first uncredited debut was in a 1963 movie, then went on to act in at least 50 movies and at least 40 television shows.

His most famous acting role was in Starsky & Hutch, as Huggy Bear the streetwise bar owner, and informant for the two detective, often wearing flashy outfits. He starred in all 92 episodes of the 4 season series.

His son, Justin Fargas is a former NFL player for the Oaklands Raiders.

I'm not known for my portrait photos, most will know I mainly do landscapes and architecture. Yesterday I was at the Photography Show in Birmingham NEC when I spotted this lovely young lady. I was given a trigger for the lights and had a go. This one is my favorite

Ford Gran Torino replica on display at a fan convention, National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham, in Solihull, West Midlands, England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 26th November 2005.

About this photograph.

This is a Ford Gran Torino. I do not know what year this model is, and this is likely to be a customised replica of the famous car seen in the 1970s US police television series known as Starsky & Hutch.

It was on display during a fan con event called Memorabilia at the National Exhibition Centre. Anyone can have their photos taken with the car. They can also ask for their photos taken next to the actor Antonio Fargas whom played the character called Huggy Bear in the series, as he was attending the show for autograph session.

He can be seen in this photo www.flickr.com/photos/132335712@N05/49972893543/ posing with the same car.

The photograph was taken with an Olympus Camedia C-3040Z camera, and the photo is at full size of 2048 x 1536. I did not have my Nikon DSLR until a few years later.

There were a couple of people in the background, behind the car, so I made a copy of the file, opened it in Adobe Photoshop, and edited them out of the photo. I still have the original unedited photo.

About the subject.

Starsky & Hutch is a 1970s American police action television series about two streetwise detectives in Bay City, a fictional location within Los Angeles. It lasted 4 seasons and was one of the most popular buddy-buddy cop shows.

The Ford Gran Torino in bright red with a white vector strip on each side, was used as the main car for the show. In the fictional show, the car is owned by Detective Dave Starsky.

Many people often think the car is nicknamed as Zebra Three, but that is not correct. Zebra Three is the call sign for both Starsky and Hutch, regardless of what cars they use, and in one episode, they were using the call sign when on foot.

The car’s actual nickname is The Stripped Tomato.

This happened when the actor Paul Michael Glaser was shown the car and remarked to fellow actor David Soul by sarcastically saying “That thing looks like a stripped tomato!”

The nickname later made its onscreen mention, when Hutch called Starsky’s car as a stripped tomato.

The series used as much as about four or more different models for various roles, such as normal driving, stunt driving, interior filming, and so on.

The Ford Torino was manufactured by Ford for the North American market between 1968 and 1976, and there where three generations of the model.

The Photography Show 2022, at The NEC (National Exhibition Centre) Birmingham, West Midlands, England, United Kingdom, on Sunday 18th September 2022.

About the photographs.

Oh, look! A colourful zebra with feather boas!

At an event called The Photography Show, there was a stage with various different settings, acting as some kind of studio set up, for the public to have fun with.

It’s like, part of the stage was set up to look like a lounge with a sofa and things you would find in a living room. Another part of the stage was set to look like a 1950s American café. Stuff like that, so visitors can pose with those in the background.

They had this zebra, instead of being black and white strips, it had a sassy colourful strips. My best friend whom came with me, wanted her photos taken next to this zebra.

About my day at the event.

I needed to go to The Photography Show because there were few things I need to look at and try out, in order to help with decisions I was thinking about.

My best friend was staying at my home for a few days, and I invited her to come with me to the show. She came with me, mainly for company, and in small parts, she may find something interesting at the show, even thought she’s not a photographer.

My car had a mechanical problem and was left at a garage for repairs, so we had to travel to the NEC by train.

When we arrived, we were having good time enjoying the show, chit chat about stuff we find, and all that. Also, I wanted to look at various camera bags, and try them out. There’s nothing wrong with my Billingham bag, which for me is a great bag, just that I want a slim sling bag for some places.

I also wanted to look at various printing papers, most companies would have a range of samples laying around, so you can compare the quality and stuff like that. Not only that I do photography and print out stand-alone photos, but also, I do graphic design, so may need better suitable paper for creating objects, like CD album inlay, DVD case cover, and so on. I ended up with four packs of sample papers from Fotospeed so I can test them later. :- )

I tried taking some photographs of the event, but I wasn’t there to take photos, I was really there to seek ideas, try things out, and make plans for future, like a shopping list of items I may want to have. I didn’t do much photography, just about 60 shots.

But the event wasn’t really much, maybe because of the after effects of coronavirus, I mean, it is going to take a long time before such an event is back to the way it used to be before the coronavirus. For example, Wacom, a company that made graphic tablets, had often been there in the past, but this year, wasn’t there.

But still, I managed to get a sling bag at show price, like I said, four packs of printing papers, and a chance to try out various other equipment. And my best friend got to meet a YouTuber called Mr Wig.

People, not an area of photography I do much of. Today I went to The Photography Show at The NEC Birmingham. On one of the stages was this chap. He was very photogenic. I took this photo with my little Canon 240SX HS compact camera.
