Dahlias are a captivating and diverse group of flowering plants celebrated for their vibrant and intricate blooms. These flowers belong to the Asteraceae family and are native to Mexico and Central America. Dahlias come in various sizes, shapes, and colors, ranging from small, button-sized pom-poms to large, dinner-plate-sized blossoms. Their petals can be single, semi-double, or fully double, displaying a wide spectrum of colors, including shades of red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and white.

Dahlias thrive in well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight, typically grown from tubers planted in the spring after the threat of frost has passed. Regular deadheading (removing spent blooms) encourages continuous flowering. They are versatile plants used to beautify flower beds, borders, and gardens, while their long stems and showy blooms make them popular choices for cut flower arrangements and bouquets.

In regions with cold winters, dahlias are often treated as tender perennials or annuals. To overwinter them, dig up the tubers in the fall after the first frost, let them dry, and store them in a cool, dark place until spring. Despite their beauty, dahlias can be susceptible to pests like aphids and slugs, as well as diseases like powdery mildew and fungal infections, necessitating proper care and vigilance.

Symbolically, dahlias convey meanings of elegance, dignity, and a commitment to an eternal bond in the language of flowers. They are often used in wedding bouquets and other formal arrangements. In Mexico, dahlias hold cultural and symbolic significance as the national flower, further enhancing their charm and importance.

The majestic Grizzly bear! 🐻 Known for their immense size and strength, Grizzlies are one of the most iconic symbols of the wilderness. Found primarily in the western regions of North America, these magnificent creatures are characterized by their distinctive hump on their shoulders and their fearsome set of sharp claws. Despite their powerful appearance, Grizzly bears are typically peaceful and prefer to avoid human interaction. They primarily feed on vegetation, berries, and fish, and their role as apex predators helps maintain the ecological balance of their habitats. Let's cherish and respect these incredible animals and their natural habitats.

So mixing it up because, well, two landscapes in a row is just a bit too predictable now isn’t it.

So here are some flowers pouring out of a milk jug thing from the kitchen. Lucky dirt & blue tack wash off easily or I may have been in trouble. More trouble 😂

Happy new week out there !

In the heart of the woodland’s embrace,

Where ancient trees stand tall,

A gray squirrel scurries with gentle grace,

Answering nature's call.

With fur as soft as silver mist,

It moves with practiced ease,

Through sunlit rays and shadows kissed,

Among the whispering trees.

Its tail, a plume of feathery gray,

Flicks with every leap,

As it dances through the branches,

In a silence the forest keeps.

With eyes that sparkle, quick and bright,

It surveys its leafy domain,

Collecting treasures, day and night,

Before the autumn rain.

A creature small, yet full of might,

With courage in its stride,

The gray squirrel thrives in nature’s light,

In the forest, wild and wide.

So let us marvel, as we see,

This acrobat of the wood,

For in its grace, so wild and free,

The gray squirrel lives as it should.

Timeless Elegance: A Monochromatic Portrait of the Sunbird

Witness the timeless elegance and intricate details that transcend the boundaries of color.

Every line and contour becomes more pronounced, revealing the true essence of this magnificent creature. In this monochromatic realm, the sunbird's beauty takes on a new dimension, captivating our senses with its understated allure.

The contrast between light and shadow adds depth and drama to the composition, accentuating the intricate patterns of the sunbird's feathers. Each tiny barb and filament becomes a work of art, delicately etched by nature's hand. The monochrome palette amplifies the textures, transforming them into a tactile feast for the eyes.

As we immerse ourselves in this black and white Photograph, we are reminded of the power of simplicity. Stripped of vibrant colors, the sunbird's allure lies in its pure essence, showcasing the harmonious balance between light and darkness. This little sheltered footpath always lends itself to an uplifting image. It's on one of my favourite local walks 😊💚

Fields of gold, beneath the sun's embrace,

A tranquil haven, a boundless space.

Amber waves in the gentle breeze,

Whisper secrets to rustling trees.

Gentle meadows, where wildflowers bloom,

Painting the landscape with colors in tune.

A tapestry woven by nature's hand,

In this idyllic haven, we understand.

Beneath the azure sky's vast dome,

Farmsteads stand, a place called home.

Crops swaying in rhythmical rhyme,

A symphony of seasons, an ageless time.

Nature's beauty in every sight,

From dawn's first blush to the tranquil night.

In the fields and farms, life's stories told,

A canvas of wonder, a sight to behold.

In the realm where day meets night,

A dark and ominous skyline takes its flight.

Foreboding storm clouds gather, heavy and low,

But amidst the darkness, a glimmering glow.

Bright sunlight pierces through the shroud,

A defiant beacon, bold and proud.

It casts a golden path upon the sea,

A promise of hope, a glimpse of what could be.

The ocean below, in turmoil and rage,

Its waves dance wildly, a relentless stage.

Yet in the midst of this tempestuous scene,

The sunlight's embrace, serene and pristine.

A juxtaposition of forces, fierce and grand,

Nature's artistry upon the land.

A reminder that even in darkest strife,

There's a chance for light to shape our life.

So stand in awe of this dramatic display,

As dark and light engage in their eternal ballet.

For in the storm's heart, we may yet find,

The strength to endure and leave no dream behind.

In Lyon's rustic countryside, we stride,

On hiking trails, where wonders hide.

Amidst nature's embrace, we roam,

Through fields and forests, we find our home.

Its warmth upon us, a gentle flow.

As rustling leaves, a symphony play,

We wander freely, on this path today.

Through meadows green and wildflowers bright,

We venture forth, in pure delight.

The scent of earth, the fresh air's kiss,

In Lyon's country side, pure bliss.

The winding roads, they lead us far,

To places where the wild things are.

In every step, a story unfolds,

Farmstead's Charm

In the heart of the countryside's embrace,

A farmstead stands with its rustic grace.

Red barns and silos reach for the sky,

Against a backdrop of clouds up high.

Rolling pastures, where cattle roam,

A peaceful haven, a place to call home.

The scent of earth and freshly mowed hay,

Invites us to linger, to stay and sway.

Farmers toil with hands so skilled,

Cultivating the land, dreams fulfilled.

Rows of crops stretch far and wide,

An ode to diligence, side by side.

Golden harvests, a labor's reward,

Bounty of the fields, a gift to hoard.

In the beauties of farms and fields we find,

A connection to nature, intertwined.

The Farm's Symphony

Amidst the fields where the wildflowers grow,

A farm awakens, a vibrant tableau.

The song of tractors and chirping birds,

Compose a symphony, sweet and heard.

Rows of corn and orchards of trees,

Blossom in nature's harmonious ease.

Scents of hay and the earthy ground,

Envelop the senses, peace is found.

Farmers and animals, a life entwined,

Working together, a rhythm defined.

Caring for land and creatures alike,

A bond with nature, in every hike.

Sunsets paint the sky with hues of fire,

As stars emerge, the night's attire.

In the beauties of farms and fields so wide,

A timeless connection, a source of pride.

A shimmer darts through morning's gleam,

As if the dawn released a dream.

With feathers forged in light's embrace,

The sunbird dances, full of grace.

Emerald, ruby, sapphire fire—

Each hue a note in nature’s choir.

No painter’s brush, no poet’s pen

Can hold the glow it shows again.

It doesn’t seek the thundered praise,

Just nectar sipped through golden haze.

Yet every flutter, every flight

Transforms the sky with colored light.

So small, so swift, yet grand its role—

A flicker bright that stirs the soul.

In bloom and breeze, in branch and sky,

Iridescent beauty passes by.

Silhouetted against a fiery canvas of pink and orange, a gnarled coconut tree stretches towards the heavens, its fronds rustling in the twilight breeze. The sun, a molten orb sinking into the horizon, paints the sky with streaks of crimson and gold. This place has to be one of my favorite places to get to easily around here. Chatfield State Park is in Littleton and has a beautiful lake in which many campground and picnic areas are arranged. This particular evening was stormy and cool. The clouds had build up over the horizon but the sun still shone up and around the clouds. Eventually we even had a short golden hour of glorious light which was quickly followed by a rainstorm. Thankfully we weren't parked too far away when this happened but we did get pretty wet running back to the car in the rain. It was totally worth it! :)

It's the weekend again! Do you have any special plans? I am hoping to go up to RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park) today or tomorrow. It is supposed to stay rainy and overcast today... just my kind of weather.

Whatever you do I hope you have a wonderful and blessed weekend. Stay inspired! xx

A moment that left me breathless - witnessing the most magnificent sunrise at Moraine Lake. As the first rays of light painted the towering peaks and bathed the turquoise waters in a golden glow, time stood still. The serene stillness, the majestic mountains, and the vibrant hues mirrored in the lake created a symphony of beauty. I am so grateful to have been present for this awe-inspiring moment.

Upon the dawn, so soft and bright,

A sunbird flits in golden light.

With feathers kissed by morning's hue,

In crimson, green, and sapphire blue.

It hovers light from bloom to bloom,

A whisper sweet, a soft perfume.

Its tiny heart beats fast and free,

A dancer in the sky's decree.

The nectar calls, so rich, so sweet,

With wings aglow, it finds its treat.

A guardian of the blossoms fair,

It spreads the seeds with tender care.

Oh, sunbird small, with colors bold,

A living gem, a tale retold.

In nature's song, you play your part,

A fleeting joy, a work of art.

In the forest's tranquil grace,

The gray squirrel finds its place,

With dainty paws and eyes so keen,

It's a vision of nature's serene scene.

Among the branches, it glides and weaves,

In the dappled light, among the leaves,

Its silver fur, a soft array,

Guiding it through its woodland ballet.

With a nimble spirit, it freely roams,

In nature's sanctuary, it finds its homes,

A creature so elegant, in every way,

Enhancing the beauty of each new day.

Oh, graceful gray squirrel, in your stride,

You dance through the woods, so full of pride,

In your presence, we find joy and cheer,

A reminder of nature's wonders, crystal clear.

In the heart of the wild, where the rivers flow, Where the ancient forests whisper and the mountain peaks glow, Lives the mighty grizzly, with fur of tawny gold, A creature of legends, fierce and bold.

With a hump on its back, a symbol of might, It roams through the shadows, both day and night. In meadows it wanders, through the alpine air, A sovereign of wilderness, beyond compare.

It digs through the earth with powerful claws, For roots and for berries, and nature's laws. By the streams it stands, where the salmon leap, In the hush of the forest, secrets it keeps.

When winter winds howl, and the snow starts to fall, The grizzly retreats to its den, once and for all. In the quiet of slumber, it dreams of the spring, Of the green world reborn, and the songs it will sing.

But the grizzly is more than its strength and its might, It's a guardian of balance, from morning till night. Through its wild eyes, the spirit of earth, A reminder of nature's infinite worth.

So let us respect this grand bear of the wild, With a heart full of wonder, as pure as a child. For in the realm of the grizzly, we see A glimpse of our world's true majesty.

I was so fortunate to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of golden hour illuminating the breathtaking Valley of the Ten Peaks and the charming canoe rentals at Moraine Lake. The ethereal light gracefully painted the rugged peaks and caressed the tranquil waters, creating a scene of pure enchantment.

Glad we stuck around for this to develop. The fog and rising steam off the lake were pretty dense and continued well past sunrise. Was able to get some great alpenglow off Rainier at dawn -- luckily this scene developed as the sun continued to rise.

Auttiköngäs is a beautiful destination throughout all seasons. The Auttikönkä waterfalls are among the most stunning in Finland. The Auttikönkä nature trail, stretching almost 4 km, takes you across the waterfall, through the primeval forest, and towards the rocks. An interesting and diverse nature trail begins at the Pirttikahvila courtyard. Currently, Auttiköngäs is part of the Northern Finnish forest protection program for ancient forests. The main attraction is the 16-meter-high Auttiköngäs waterfalls flowing in a steep, rocky gorge. The name Autti originates from the Sámi word ávzi, meaning gorge or valley. The term köngäs is commonly found in the names of waterfalls in Northern Finland. The water continues its course to the bottom of the gorge in various streams, roaring loudly between the rocks. The nature trail continues through a serene old forest to a hilltop with a view over the Taiga forests. The gorge where Auttiköngäs foam originates was formed millions of years ago by powerful earthquakes that created the fault line through which the river now flows. The nearby Korouoma Gorge is also part of the same fault zone. Since the melting of the continental glaciers ,around 8000–9000 BC, the area has essentially retained its current form. Historically, the Auttijoki River has been a significant trade route. From the late 19th century to the 1970s, the river was used for log floating. Due to the steepness of the waterfall, it was impossible to float logs downstream naturally, so a log chute was built up to the falls. Today, the chute is preserved as a cultural heritage site.

Auttiköngäs is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Finland, surrounded by the tranquility of the taiga forest. The Auttikönkä nature trail takes you over the waterfall, into the primeval forest, and towards the rocks. An interesting and diverse nature trail begins on the premises of the wooden café-restaurant Pirttikahvila. In Finland, traditional wooden houses are often referred to as "wooden cabins" or "wooden chalets." The Finnish word for a wooden house is "puutalo." The entire area, including the puutalo, is managed by the Nature Services - Metsähallitus. In the restaurant, we enjoyed a delicious reindeer soup made by the owner, Eerikki. According to the owner, the forest is his second home. In Pirttikahvila's catering, you can also find nature-inspired products such as sparkling drinks and homemade jam to take home. The popular Auttikönkää nature trail can be traversed on foot even in winter. Please be aware that especially stairs and hills can be very slippery, as there is no winter maintenance on the route.

This location possesses just unbelievably captivating natural beauty. Understandably, it's been photographed zillions of times (is that a real number?) Anyhow, I was certain to get my a$$ in here to make my own images while I was shooting Arizona and Utah for nearly a full month.

This is a wide pano 2:1 ratio file. Limited Edition of 150 prints.

it's so amazing and also funny, we have two juvenile buzzard siblings in the yard and they appproach sometimes very close to us ( the nearest was about 5m) they are very curious,at least not shy, doing their flightexercise around the house and barn and playing catch me if you can.................i love it. we call them our "house buzzards" :-)

Cultivating the Black Bat Flower may require attention to specific care requirements, including humidity levels and protection from direct sunlight. It is suitable for container gardening indoors, making it a popular choice for those looking to enjoy its exotic beauty in various climates.

The plant's unique appearance has led to cultural interpretations and symbolic meanings, with associations to mystery and the supernatural in some cultures. Overall, the Black Bat Flower stands out as a captivating and extraordinary addition to gardens and indoor spaces, providing a touch of the exotic and intriguing to any environment.

The Kuusamontie Nature Tower is located 70 km east of Rovaniemi. The main attraction of the area is the 16-meter-high Auttiköngäs waterfalls. The forest in the Auttiköngäs area is so ancient that it can be considered a primary or pristine forest. The massive nature tower sits atop the rocky peak along the Auttiköngäs Nature Trail, 200 m above sea level. Accessible via a staircase and a platform, you can reach the observation deck. The tower is roofed and surrounded by a stunning ancient forest atop a hill, offering a magnificent view of the surrounding hills and the snow-capped peaks. Tables and benches are placed beside the nature tower. The location is equipped with a campfire pit, benches, a woodshed, and an annex. The annex features a natural stone fireplace, perfect for roasting sausages and brewing coffee. It also includes a large table and benches. Firewood is available in the nearby woodshed.

The popular Auttikönkää nature trail can be traversed on foot even in winter. Please be aware that especially stairs and hills can be very slippery, as there is no winter maintenance on the route. Photo of BieJee walking towards the Kuusamontie observation deck.
