'There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he
And then one day
One magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"
David Bowie
In moments of quiet stillness, when the world’s clamor fades into the distance, we often find ourselves face-to-face with the depth of our own thoughts. It’s as though the mind becomes a vast landscape, uncharted and waiting to be explored. These rare pauses in life offer us clarity—a chance to peel back the layers of daily distractions and reconnect with something truer, something timeless.
When we allow ourselves this space to reflect, it’s not just about finding answers. Sometimes, it’s about embracing the questions. What are we striving for? What does it mean to live meaningfully? These ponderings might lead us to unexpected places—memories revisited, ambitions reimagined, or truths long buried beneath the surface.
Such reflections strip life down to its contrasts. They remind us that joy is richer because of sorrow, that certainty often coexists with ambiguity, and that the beauty of life lies as much in its complexities as in its simplicities. Without the noise and distractions, these contrasts come into sharper focus, urging us to see not just the shades of gray in between, but the striking light and shadow that shape our experiences.
And perhaps the greatest gift of these moments is perspective. They remind us of how fleeting our worries can be against the backdrop of eternity, how small yet significant our place is within the vast expanse of existence. It’s in these moments that we recognize the value of simply being—of allowing ourselves to think, to feel, and to be present with our own thoughts.
Life, in its intricate and fleeting nature, invites us to pause now and then—to linger in the stillness and allow its meaning to unfold.
Joe is my Nature Boy.. He studied the first aid book and went out and got on the job training and now he has his own station for his first assignment... He even let me use his picture to make my little video.. He's such a nice little bear.. Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday, Everybody!!
"To live in a Shack by the Sea
And breath the sweet salt air
To live with the Dawn and the Dusk
The New Moon and Full Moon
The Tides, the wind, the rain
To surf and comb the beach
To gather seashells and driftwood
And know the Thrill of Loneliness
And lose all sense of Time
And be Free..."
from the song/poem "Full Moon" by Eden Ahbez
Eden Ahbez was a beatnik/songwriter/poet and frequently is attributed as being the original "hippie". Sort of like Maynard G Krebs meets Timothy Leary in one persona.
He had several successful covers of his songs. The most popular was "Nature Boy" which was released by Nat King Cole in 1948. It sold over a million copies and is still covered by today's popular Singers and Jazz groups.
My son, Shawn sent me the lyrics because he seemed to think that it reminded him of dear old Dad, lol. btw, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Shawn is a surfer, beach comber and photographer. He and his wife Venessa run a successful Jewelry business called "Arizaga", based in NYC.

Thanks for kindness, comments, faves and invites !
My son is increasingly weary of me with my camera. He affectionately calls me "Paparazzi". Shots like this are getting harder and harder to come by so when they do happen I stop everything and celebrate with a quick victory dance.

After all, he is holding a fresh water clam in his hand.

We teach our children to never judge anyone by their skin color or race. That the beauty in life is that we all are different.

Was looking through old photos and found this one... the bubbles immediately caught my eye, since I just saw one with bubbles a few weeks ago. Knew I had to post the juxtaposition flick.
This song was pretty popular back in the late '40s and early '50s and I hadn't heard it in ages.. When I did the other day I immediately had an idea for this video... Joe is my Nature Boy but he doesn't have his surfboard with him today... He's doing his lifeguard duty...
