Cwmorthin Quarry is a slate quarry west of the village of Tanygrisiau, north Wales. Quarrying on the site started in 1810. In 1860 it was connected to the Ffestiniog Railway. In 1900 it was acquired by the nearby Oakeley Quarry and the two were connected underground. In 1970 it closed along with Oakeley. There was small scale working in the 1980s and 1990s, the mine finally closed in 1997. LLyn Cwmorthin. 1/2

Vernal Fall is a 317-foot (96.6 m) waterfall on the Merced River just downstream of Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park.
From Glacier Point (see panorama picture in the middle - www.flickr.com/photos/142421249@N02/48687951368/in/datepo...) you can see the Vernal Fall and the Nevada Fall. A wonderful tour for hiking.

Possibly my favourite composition at Ringing Roger with the foreground rock creating an 'x'. I've stood here many times perfecting the composition. It felt quite precarious yesterday with the frozen rocks.
These are the best conditions I've had. Often, patchy doesn't work, creating too much contrast. But the hard frost decreased the contrast on the rocks.
I couldn't fit the foreground rock into one frame for the previous upload as I only had 24mm equivalent lens. This is good though as going wider reduces the impact of Loose Hill and the Great Ridge.
