Today was the #StateOfNASA event at NASA centers across America. I was fortunate to get to attend the #NASASocial that covered the presentation and then touring the facility. Great things are going on at Stennis and their future looks bright.

On top of launch pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center. The pad is being prepared for the launch of NASA's Space Launch System, their newest rocket set for launch in early 2017.

I wasn't allowed to get any closer; looked like a test chamber that allowed workers to manipulate gear in a harsh simulated environment while the technicians remain outside the chamber.

As it turns out, the Solid Rocket Boosters need to steer, and this is the flange that does the heavy lifting. There is a nozzle below this, and there are hydraulics in this which push the nozzle in the correct direction.
