Cool plane and a very cool scheme... those were the days.

 

Taken during my few hours of spotting at Lindbergh Field in 1996.

 

She stayed in service till at least 2001. Sadly this great aircraft was last noted stored at Victorville where she will or has been scrapped.

The Michigan State Police UAS (Drone) unit consists of 4 certified pilots and 4 observers who are present on all operations working with the pilots. They were the first police agency in the United States to obtain FAA approval for operations state wide.

 

Michigan State Police Field Supoort & Aviation Team is based out of Lansing's Capital Region International Airport, with satellite offices in Flint and Ypsilanti. Aircraft types include a Beechcraft King Air 90, Cessna 182R and T206H, Bell 206L3, 407GX, and UH-1H, and several types of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs).

 

The Michigan State Police Aviation Unit started in 1937 when the Michigan State Aeronautics Commission offered the use of its 1936/37 Stinson SR-5A Serial #9336-A Reg #NC-81Y powered by a single 245-hp (183-kW) Lycoming R-680-6 radial piston engine.
