She was just a delivery pizza girl, expecting nothing more than a quick drop-off. But the house behind that door wasn’t a home — it was an adult film studio in disguise. An innocent visit turns into an unexpected twist… and her night takes a direction she never saw coming.

We spent two nights and a day at the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, staying at the village of Hrensko. It is a popular hiking area of sandstone and tall trees in the Czech Republic. The Mysterious House (name on the sign) was up a side canyon opposite our pension. We didn't notice it at first but saw it from our bedroom window. The information below is a rough version of what was on the sign:

This building was built in 1905 as an industrial site for production of acetylene gas which was used for lighting. Since the chemical process is fairly dangerous and requires large amounts of water, the building was built on a rocky platform in a small lateral canyon near the creek. It was built of hand-carved sandstone blocks in the style of a medieval castle. As electrification proceeded the gasworks was abandoned and the building deteriorated.

the Czechoslovak state sold the building to a private owner in the 1960s. However, the promise to renovate didn't happen and it deteriorated further.

The current owner bought the ruin in 2004. His intention was to renovate the building to its original style. He found a 100 year old photo taken of the original building in Decin museum. The building has been completely renovated and can be rented out as a holiday home.

This view of the Bourn Mansion on San Francisco’s Nob Hill captures the full theatricality of one of the city’s most enigmatic architectural treasures. Designed in 1896 by celebrated architect Willis Polk for mining baron William Bowers Bourn II, the mansion is a rare and moody example of Renaissance Revival architecture rendered in richly textured red brick. It stands in striking contrast to its stuccoed neighbors, exuding a fortress-like elegance with layered classical detailing.

From this angle, the building’s sculptural elements come into sharper relief. A pedimented stone balcony hovers over the main entryway, while balustrades and dentil cornices crown the upper floors with Gilded Age precision. The three dormers tucked under a steeply pitched slate roof—each crowned with scrollwork and copper accents—evoke the grandeur of 17th-century European châteaux.

The absence of ornamentation on the flanking walls heightens the drama of the entry facade, where wrought iron lanterns and rusticated stone surrounds frame the main doorway. A leafless tree in the foreground adds to the building’s Gothic allure, casting long shadows that feel more literary than residential. This home has been the source of ghost stories, high-society gossip, and architectural pilgrimages for decades—and with good reason.

Tucked quietly into the steep grid of Nob Hill, the Bourn Mansion is more than a historic home—it’s an atmospheric masterpiece. Whether you’re drawn by its architectural pedigree or haunted mystique, it remains one of the city’s most compelling and photogenic private residences.

This odd structure is about 125 ft. from Bucktail Falls. Ever since I have been coming to this area, about 3 1/2 years, it has either been unoccupied or, as here, For Sale. I don't think you could see the falls in the summer from any room in the house, but I'm sure you could hear it.

It looks as if at one time it was frequented by a Mr. Drumm. I wonder if the "H" stands for "Hum"?

Porto has some exquisite architecture and stunning palaces (19th and early 20th Century).

Palacete do Bonjardim is a literary symbol and an imaginary place for us. It is a partially ruined palace, an old family home with a haunted, cinematic and charming atmosphere.

O Porto tem obras de arquitectura notáveis e alguns palácios dos séculos XIX e XX, que merecem a nossa atenção.

O Palacete do Bonjardim faz parte do nosso imaginário pessoal e literário. Era uma requintada antiga morada de família; hoje em dia, está parcialmente arruinada e tem uma atmosfera assombrada, cinematográfica e muito apelativa.
