Myeongdong was a place where the most stylish people in Korea gathered. (1920~1970)

Although it has faded a lot now.

Please sell me fewer bananas, sir. I cannot eat that many at once.

Be prepared to eat bananas, Ann.

The Cathedral Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (Latin: Ecclesia Cathedralis Nostrae Dominae Immaculatae Conceptionis; Korean: 천주교 서울대교구 주교좌 명동대성당),[1] informally known as Myeongdong Cathedral (명동대성당), is the national cathedral of the Archdiocese of Seoul. Located in the Myeongdong neighborhood of Jung District, Seoul, South Korea, it is the seat of the Archbishop of Seoul, Peter Chung Soon-taick.

The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception honored as the principal Patroness of Korea by a Pontifical decree accorded by Pope Gregory XVI in 1841. The cathedral serves as a community landmark, tourist attraction, and a notable symbol of Catholic Church in Korea. The South Korean government declared the cathedral as a historic site (No. # 258) on 22 November 1977.*

A popular shopping district in Seoul, Korea

There was no Christmas market this year, just one more tradition or expectation trashed by Covid-19. On Christmas Eve, Myeongdong normally is thronged with shoppers and dating couples. Not many this year, but someone was still selling corn on the cob.

This is a Seoul street fashion/Korean "environmental portrait." This style conveys not just what people are wearing, but who they are and where they belong in the cultural landscape.

Once one of the busiest, most crowded shopping districts in the country, Myeongdong has been brought low by the pandemic. It's not a ghost town, but it certain has lots much of its pizzazz.

Myeongdong/Seoul/Korea

I went to Myeongdong on a busy Sunday night with my photography class and our Kazakh model Olga. For this shot I used my Nikon D40 with kit lens. I setup on a tripod and used about a half second exposure with the SB-25 flash set to rear (manual, of course).

Clams being cooked in Myeongdong Seoul. One of the hot tourist spots in the city popular with both foreigners and Koreans. The clams are delicious doused in extra spicy sauce.

Myeongdong Street Food. Myeongdong is not only Seoul's shopping mecca, it is also a street food paradise for food lovers. The pedestrian-friendly streets are lined with rows of fabulous korean street food. You may need a few visits (and cash only) to try out most of the popular street food at Myeongdong.

My last night in Seoul. It was good, but I don't really want to go back anytime soon.
