Cool test shoot with LED colors lights

Like many places in this old city, the intersection of Berkeley and Stanhope Streets in the Back Bay has history hidden in plain sight. Though the Liberty Mutual Tower from 2013 at 157 Berkeley Street dominates the view, its neighbors are arguably much more interesting. At 154 Berkeley Street is the AKA Hotel, which opened in 1925 and served as the Boston Police Headquarters until their move in 1997. At 209 Columbus Avenue is the former Youth's Companion Magazine Building, designed by Hartwell and Richardson, which opened in 1892 and where the United States Pledge of Allegiance was born. Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Oxford Saïd traces its roots back to the Oxford Centre for Management Studies (OCMS) which was founded in 1965. It was the precursor to both what is now Saïd Business School and to Templeton College, the University's business-focused postgraduate college. Templeton College was named after Sir John Templeton, an American-born Rhodes Scholar and billionaire mutual fund pioneer, who made a significant donation to the college. Initially, OCMS was an "associate institution" of the University, providing executive, graduate and later undergraduate courses in Management Studies. OCMS was renamed Templeton College in 1983, and the University of Oxford School of Management Studies was created in 1991, taking over the undergraduate and graduate degree courses from the college.[3] Saïd Business School was formed in 1996 out of the School of Management Studies.

The new business school building was completed in 2001 with a £23 million benefaction from Saudi-Syrian businessman Wafic Saïd. The building includes an amphitheatre and the Sainsbury Library, and was designed by Edward Jones and Sir Jeremy Dixon. It was built on the site of Oxford Rewley Road railway station. The opening on 5 November 2001 was accompanied by protests by students mainly because of the controversial nature of Wafic Saïd's donation. (Mr Saïd was associated with the UK's signing of the Al-Yamamah arms deal[4]).

This was cropped from a larger photo after I saw the looks on the subjects' faces.

I also chose to up the highlights on the man's collar to further define the separation between the subjects. And for the technical whizzes, which I am not, the slightlly blown white on the collar is intentional. 😊

Ingrid's leukemia diagnosis came days after her mom and I started corresponding- about sourdough bread of all things- on Facebook. We have a mutual friend, and she connected us because we live only about a mile apart. We've emailed on and off the past four months as Ingrid has been in and out of the hospital and bravely faced chemo and side effects and many, many challenges.

We've planned to do photos since the beginning but literally every time we've scheduled them Ingrid has ended up in the hospital. Today the stars finally aligned, and I had the privilege of documenting this stunning family. Ingrid was excited to be outside. Brother Klaus was excited to share his love of music with me, and I got to meet a family of superheroes in the midst of a tough journey, living every day with courage. If you're the praying type, say one for sweet Ingrid tonight.

Happy New Year. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009.

Long dresses were much in evidence at Sarah Brown's wonderful 50th birthday event last weekend. Jo, Debi & I are somehow managing to stand up straight in our heels on those cobblestones!

Everyone needs affection.

A more contemporary take of the classic ball bearing shot. I've not put my opinions forward on the "what is macro" and this shot hopefully is close in enough to count. These are 3-4mm bearings and I wanted the shadows and negative space to create the composition, rather than being constrained to a tight crop.

To keep stop them rolling away I put a magnet under them (hence the title). As usual this wasn't the shot I was going for, just preferred what was happening from this view rather than the fully lit front.

This is a very serious matter , and it has happened to me can happen to anyone of you..

I get requests for adding a friend at Facebook, I add them as sometimes they are among mutual friends list, I have no qualms, as I always thought there was more transparency on Facebook..words and an opinion that I take back completely.

I think Fickr has the best format of adding a friend, more control more information, and through the persons choice of groups you know exactly what kind of contact you are adding it is your headache after that..at Flickr I dont add people without a profile or an avatar, I dont add people into porn or semi porn groups..or religious mindset of hate..even if he is from my community or faith.

I got conned at Facebook, the culprit also from Bandra where I live ,who threatened to send underworld goons to my house implicate me in a false police case , get me beaten by the cops,, had added most of mutual friends including my daughter ..and a very close friends nephew in Dubai too..

I wonder his parents know about his activities on Facebook, and I hope Facebook authorities take serious action of his threats against me I have reported this incident to Facebook authorities enclosing his threatening message to me, , I have followed this matter in the right direction also..and taken recourse for my safety and that of my immediate family..if anything happens to me you know who is responsible - he is on my block list at Facebook..

I had actually eased out of Facebook nothing personal just a tiredness of mind and blogging spirit.. , only my tweets are connected to Facebook through Flickr Twitter blogs.

I have never denigrated any community .intentionally or intentionally , and because of peoples bias towards my religion, my culture , and the non stop outpouring of hate comments I blocked the comment box . totally disabled at Flickr.

I was fed up of blocking racists , bigots , puritans with the agenda of poison, and promoting sectarian strife..I shoot pictures read me as a photo blogger and a pedestrian poet only.

I have no other problems with comments elsewhere as I have enabled Comment Moderation...

PS

I posted a link on the veiled hijra ..a poem that talks of the hijra and his life as a prostitute , and the need of his to hide his identity from my camera with the end of his saree ..so obviously veil is not a Hijab or a Muslim garment in this context.. and this bloke at Facebook gives such an ugly twist to my link.. I sent him a message and blocked him..

He sent me a response almost a threat to my life, including implicating me in a false police case , I reported him and his message to Facebook authorities , nor have I deleted his message or his ugly comment..

A Clark's nutcracker plucks a seed from a limber pine cone. These species are bound in a mutualism, a mutually-beneficial interaction.

Limber pine produces large nutritious seeds that lack the wings found in most pines to help with wind dispersal. The cones are not pendant, but are held horizontally to serve as landing platforms and the seeds are retained in the cone. Each Clark's nutcracker harvests about 30,000 seeds in the fall, carries 20-50 seeds at a time in a pouch beneath its tongue, punches a hole in the ground with its bill, and buries or caches seeds in the soil, usually 2 to 5 to a cache. The bird will eat about 15,000 seeds to get through the winter and the remainder of the seeds are allowed to germinate the following year.

The bird gains its winter food, the tree gets its seeds planted carefully in appropriate sites.

I see an image in a mirror and I am mesmerized.

Thelymitra ixioides; Spotted Sun Orchid & Etta

It was two weeks ago; subjectively It feels to me as a different era;

Is was after the three Israeli boys and the Palestinian one were murdered,

but before the events between Israel and the Hamas started.

It was the first Ramadan Friday.

It was very hot and tensed in Jerusalem,

and I had doubt whether to go and shoot at the old city, after the prayers, or not.

Finally I decided I would (a decision I did not make in the two following weeks :-().

It was not fun.

The prayers rushed from the prayer to their buses.

Hundreds of policemen (with their horses and arms) were all around.

I hardly took any photos.

But then I saw her, and she saw me too.

I don't think she liked the fact that I was taking her photo;

but she does not seem angry, needless to say furious, at me;

maybe more curious.

Can there be a dialogue between us?

Can we coexist in a mutual respect?

The No.1 Mill of the Mutual Spinning Company on which construction began in 1884. Design was by local architects. Potts, Pickup and Dixon. To the right is the No.2 Mill which has a foundation stone dated 1891. The mills continued in operation until relatively late, switching from cotton production during the mid-20th century to incorporating woollen and artificial fibre spinning.

The Wallops Incident Response Team completed today an initial assessment of Wallops Island, Virginia, following the catastrophic failure of Orbital Science Corp.’s Antares rocket shortly after liftoff at 6:22 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Oct. 28, from Pad 0A of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

“I want to praise the launch team, range safety, all of our emergency responders and those who provided mutual aid and support on a highly-professional response that ensured the safety of our most important resource -- our people,” said Bill Wrobel, Wallops director. “In the coming days and weeks ahead, we'll continue to assess the damage on the island and begin the process of moving forward to restore our space launch capabilities. There's no doubt in my mind that we will rebound stronger than ever.”

The initial assessment is a cursory look; it will take many more weeks to further understand and analyze the full extent of the effects of the event. A number of support buildings in the immediate area have broken windows and imploded doors. A sounding rocket launcher adjacent to the pad, and buildings nearest the pad, suffered the most severe damage.

At Pad 0A the initial assessment showed damage to the transporter erector launcher and lightning suppression rods, as well as debris around the pad.

The Wallops team also met with a group of state and local officials, including the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, the Virginia Marine Police, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Wallops environmental team also is conducting assessments at the site. Preliminary observations are that the environmental effects of the launch failure were largely contained within the southern third of Wallops Island, in the area immediately adjacent to the pad.

Immediately after the incident, the Wallops’ industrial hygienist collected air samples at the Wallops mainland area, the Highway 175 causeway, and on Chincoteague Island. No hazardous substances were detected at the sampled locations.

Additional air, soil and water samples will be collected from the incident area as well as at control sites for comparative analysis.

The Coast Guard and Virginia Marine Resources Commission reported today they have not observed any obvious signs of water pollution, such as oil sheens. Furthermore, initial assessments have not revealed any obvious impacts to fish or wildlife resources. The Incident Response Team continues to monitor and assess.

Following the initial assessment, the response team will open the area of Wallops Island, north of the island flagpole opposite of the launch pad location, to allow the U.S. Navy to return back to work.

Anyone who finds debris or damage to their property in the vicinity of the launch mishap is cautioned to stay away from it and call the Incident Response Team at 757-824-1295.
