Mr. Sneaky.
The venerable Fox Body Mustang had a secret. An obscure options list item, code 240A, allowed the Notchback in LX trim to be paired with the GT's 225 HP 5.0L V8. The significantly lower mass meant not only did the LX Notchback make an ideal sleeper that outperformed the GT, but because peak Fox Body performance was available at essentially a base model price point, Ford could sell them by the loads as police interceptors throughout North America. Thus a cult hero was born. The domain of unmarked precinct detectives everywhere, this sleeper was serious business and seriously quick.
I hope you enjoy!

One of the very last Mustangs built with a carbureted 5.0, put away by the original owner and kept stored. When this picture was taken, it had 5,389 original miles on it. Hampstead Day Car Show, Arcadia Exposition Grounds, Arcadia, MD, May 23, 2015.
The LX gained body colored moldings for 1992 (seen here), replacing the black trim. 1993 followed with one more year of the Fox body platform, before the new SN95 Mustang (a modified Fox) debuted for 1994. A direct descendant of the original 1965 Fastback, the Fox Hatchback offered a full 30 cubic feet of cargo volume with rear seat folded.
The 1992 LX Hatchback had a base factory delivered retail list price at $10,721 ($14,207 for 5.0 V8).

A couple of '80s superstars hang out at the cruise. This 5.0l LX ragtop and the Monte Carlo SS top my want list, though a modern compact could pick a fight with either one,,,
