Okay, it's not actually within our backyard, but it's just beyond it. The yard behind our house borders a large park that is just being developed. The park was recently seeded, and the straw was put down as mulch. I took this shot while standing on our backyard deck. I think these Sandhill Cranes must have been eating the grass seed.
I know that there's not a lot going on in this image. But I rather like the repetitive poses of the birds, and I thought it was kind of cool that I could get this shot without leaving home, so I decided to go with it. The abundance of Sandhill Cranes in the area near our new home in Michigan has been one of the pleasant surprises of living here.
I must have taken at least 100 shots of this village. Although its a hill top village it is also surronded by hills which meant that I could never get it in direct sunlight during the golden hour. It was also difficult trying to find a location with a clear shot without any trees blocking the view. I eventually decided to use the trees to my advantage and used this little bit of of framing to add some depth.
There must have been a recent hatching of Blue Dasher Dragonflies because there were hundreds of them rising up from low vegetation as I walked the trail at Lake St. Clair Metropark.
This small dragonfly (28-45mm, about 1-2 inches) reportedly eats 100-300 small insects each day.

Oh, dear. I must have a "last photo, last chance to participate" subscription. This image was taken an hour before the last-minute (Monday evening) upload. I wasn't sure what to do for the theme (so many possibilities!), and only today did I have the idea to photograph the tiny golden crown which you have already seen for "High Key". Said and done, but there was something vital missing from all the photos.
But then, when I thought about a title for the photo (I had already decided to pick one of the slightly boring "crown only" photos), the title of a film classic with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck came to mind: A Roman Holiday. Now you will say: "But neither words, heart nor crown, are part of the title?!?" Well, not of the original title, but of the German one – which is "Ein Herz und eine Krone": Heart and Crown. The only problem was that the heart (which you have seen already for another MM theme as well: "Key"; you'll find both images in the first comment) was missing from the photos I'd taken so far.
Which meant that I had to start all over again. The plan was to focus mainly on the crown, but I didn't like any of those images, because the focus never was in the right spot. Focus stacking wasn't indicated this time, either, because this was an image that required some bokeh. So I gave it one last try, this time with focus on the tiny silver heart pendant only, and I let the small crown "do" what it can do best: dissolve into nice bokeh. Long live the last-minute idea ;)

I don't know if there ever was Gold in Cologne, but if there was, they must have put it into this into this bridge. When I got close, I could see there is is another kind of gold on the bridge. It's full of padlocks hung by lovers. I have never ever seen so many padlocks in one place, as on this bridge. It's from one end to the other.

I followed a Julieanne Kost tutorial the other day and somehow I must have missed a step because it wasn't supposed to be quite like this. One day I will start again but in the meantime I thought I'd keep this anyway, I quite liked it.

Guys I have to own up and come clean so to speak when we were up at Aberfeldy for Autumn shots as we were driving back, I noticed must have been 20 Roe Deer so stopped on this slip road I only had my 20mm with me so wasn't able to get a decent shot but realized this must be farmed deer as there was a high fence on leaving and still looking to my left saw red deer as well so decided to pop back up but the roe deer weren't there some work was getting done drove up the slip road and saw the red deer quickly got out went to side of fence grabbed a few shots was there about 2 mins they moved away on seeing me but then stopped and just looked obviously used to people there was a huge type of warehouse with lots of steam coming from it so just left quickly but might pop back if we get snow it was a opportunity to good to miss.

I took this in Steveston on our recent Flickr adventure.

From Wikipedia:
Steveston village is a historic salmon canning centre at the mouth of the South Arm of the Fraser River. It still maintains the character of a quaint, historic fishing village, with over 600 fishing boats––Canada's largest fleet[4] calling Steveston Harbour home. Over the years, due to its still active fishing fleet, historic buildings, and National Historic Site, The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Steveston is still very much a small fishing village, though changing quickly. It boasts over 350 businesses and services to accommodate its growing population. Steveston has become a popular place to visit and live. On sunny days, visitors flock to Steveston's waterfront boardwalks to enjoy the scenery, people and food.
I had a blast watching this round-tailed squirrel momma with her 3 little babies. She was just trying to take a breather and get a quick bite to eat, but her little ones were absolutely relentless, hanging on her and trying to get her to release just a nibble to them. It was pretty adorable.

It was all over in a flash; I am, of course. referring to the candid photo taken by a friend on the 30th July 1966, the day England won the world cup. How could I ever forget our wedding anniversary?
And now, well into my twilight years, I can always check to make quite sure by simply googling the date: "England defeated West Germany, 4–2, to win the 1966 FIFA World Cup." >>
Happy Anniversary Darling!
So spontaneous, don't you think? Well, where there's a will there's always a way! However, there was no mention of us in the search results: Google must have thought that winning the World Cup was more important than us getting hitched⁴. Life is so unfair!
The picture has a note. Check it out if you can find it! Going to lightbox and back again should do the trick. It's simply a Flickr quirk.
And finally, on a more sombre note, it was on this very day one year ago that a horrific and ongoing tragedy began.

I must have captured the barn just as a cloud was blocking the sun, but I think the light on the grasses and hills beyond brings a bit of hope to the gloomy middle.
I also want to point out that this is Fomapan 100 - an emulsion that is usually seen as muddy. But look at the barn and the dark grasses around the band - all the various dark shades are separate and in their proper places. This is largely due to the developer.

……For centuries, and in any language the ‘Firework’ is a universal ‘must have’ for myriad celebrations grand or otherwise! Here I’ve used a simple tiny indoor Sparkler to create this close-up shot for Macro Monday’s theme ‘Celebration’. Using a black backdrop, prefocused and then a rapid fire shutter taking about 10 shots before it fizzled out. Minimal Lightroom processing & then NIK tools for the border sampling from the shot itself. Happy Macro Monday and have a great week whilst staying Covid safe, Alan;-). HMM……

I put this on frosted glass which is balanced on a drinking glass which in turn was placed on a soft light. I took one picture without the drinking glass but it looked boring. So there you go.
I haven't been able to post any pics on flick'r for a couple of weeks or more ... my pc's hard drive died a death and literally had no life in it, I just couldn't access anything. I'm sure I must have overloaded it!
I could have lost everything, but my genius son in law came to the rescue. He eventually managed to get into it and had to uninstall everything.
I'm very fortunate that his job is in IT and he took my computer home with him and fitted another hard drive for me.
It was a long haul, but now everything's working, except I'm having to go on different routes to access what I want sometimes because everything is updating - which is probably a good thing!
I've missed it so much ....
Meanwhile, I accumulated a lot of photos in my Olympus camera and this one is from a set I took of colourful flowers from my little garden.
I like to bring them indoors to photograph because it means I can take my time and try out different things.
The flowers are really strong colours and I thought they went well together with the rose as the star. I added a dark vignette. I used one of my craft cards for the base/background.
Have a great day everyone!

Balloon plant is one of many common names for an African milkweed that develops showy, hairy, inflated seed pods that are a real conversation piece.. seeing the pods you can see why they are also called Hairy Balls!!
The monarchs love it... with so many leaves, it's difficult finding the eggs... but I do and this morning I found a large caterpillar munching away, I must have missed that egg!!

Creepy encounter with the Bogeyman. Or maybe the Boogie Man? Because who says abandoned sanatoriums must be creepy places haunted by the poor souls of the people who once had been treated there? The artists that have decorated a wing of one of the many buildings of this long abandoned lung sanatorium nearby Berlin must have believed the latter, because almost all of the art there is horror-themed, just like this enormous creature consisting of branches (Blair Witch, anyone?). But, wait a minute... There are branches, but there are also cables, and coloured light bulbs. Party lights! And seriously, can a creature who partly consists of colourful party lights be evil? Just imagine him all lit up like a Christmas Tree ;)
This reminded me of an anecdote my mother, magrit k., once had heard during a guided tour at Beelitz Heilstätten (another old, but no longer abandoned sanatorium also nearby Berlin). And that anecdote gives rise to doubts that these sanatoriums were per se sad places, places of pain and suffering: Back in the day (at the end of the 19th / beginning of the 20th century), as you might have guessed, men's and women's dormitories were strictly seperated from each other. But that didn't stop the patients from finding ways to visit each other at night. How? At one point, someone had found access to the underground logistic passages which connected the entire building complex. Those passages were off-limits for the patients, of course, but has "off-limits" ever stopped anyone? So, at least for some time, there there must have been quite a busy nightlife with regular, merry get-togethers among the patients, before the hospital's management noticed what was going on, and put an end to those "indecencies" by locking the passages for anyone except authorised personnel ;)
So maybe also this sanatorium isn't haunted by lost souls, but the spirits that linger there are of a good-natured, happy kind instead. And the creature in my photo isn't the Bogeyman, but DJ Boogie Man. So let the fun begin :)

Bi-Ba Butzemann
