The Musk Lorikeets have returned to the trees around the local football ground and Daniel and Sarah's school.
Standing on a hill on a windy, cloudy day, a bull musk ox looks like he is ready for war. The musk ox are really gentle animals and prefer to run rather than fight. Looking at the sharp points on his horns, he will definitely have the right of way. In my years of photographing musk ox, I have never once been a threat to them nor have they showed any defensive posturing. I prefer to think of them as gentle dinosaurs due to their prehistoric look.
Nome Alaska, light was terrible then the herd moved into a spot where they were all backlit, and it was then a photo.
I spent my lunch time yesterday trying to get a shot of a Little Lorikeet. I saw some in this tree in Royal Park but, alas, didn't manage to get a shot. I did however get some shots of the Musk Lorikeets.
The Musk Ox Farm in Palmer, AK is dedicated to the preservation and domestication of these once near-extinct animals, and to harvesting the qiviut to provide economic opportunity to the native knitters who turn the soft wool into amazing products. The farm lies in a picturesque valley not too far from Anchorage.
We've been bonding with the Geek Squad recently, so our on-line time has been spotty at best. I think I foresee a new computer in our future. Sorry about the extended lack of visits and comments to your streams.
When I smell white musk, I think of somewhere so peaceful and yet chilly.. and the only color I can vision in my mind is light..
I know light is not a color, but it's state where all colors are vibrant and illuminating
I know that doesn't make sense, But dreams never were :D

Last Spring, went across to East Gippsland for a few days to see the the mass flowering of grasstrees. Although very challenging to shoot amongst the tall grasstree stems, due to the sheer abundance of them, it was very rewarding when we could manage a decent image.
Lots of these Musk Lorikeets were making the most of the opportunity. Same with these caterpillars!
