At this show in 'Tablao' it was a big orchestra, four singers and a big crowd, all doing the Salsa. Some Rumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo and Bolero thrown in for the sake of variety. The crowd is about 50-50 tourist-Habaneros thanks to reduced entry for local people. Tablao is fairly large club in the Gran Teatro of Habana with performances several times a week.

A diferencia del tango, para la salsa se necesita uno, pero dos es mejor.

The Parisian swing sound of the Grappelli, Reinhardt era reverberated at the upper floor of Dovercourt House. It was Mo Mitchell's violin as Grappelli left us quite a few years ago.

The group was led by Tak Arikushi on guitar; bassist was Scott Hunter, Mo Mitchell on violin and Taylor Maslin on clarinet.

Dovercourt House three floors are always full of music. Bachata, salsa, waltz or swing, you can take your pick, but only swing has always live music.

Can You Recognize Him & The Legendary Music Group? - IMRAN™

I sometimes try to have experiences when family & loved ones are not able to. It can be something “I see with my mother’s eyes” or do “thinking of you dad” - honoring my late beloved parents. In this case, my dear sister in Lahore, Pakistan was the person I enjoyed this concert extra for.

I’m trying to see if she will guess whom I went to see perform live. Can you recognize this legendary group?

Phil Skladowski who plays baritone sax seems to indicate that size matters. These musicians, who carry instruments like double bass or big sax, do get their work out. Phil is on the music scene for at least 15 years and plays with big bands or smaller groups. Robbie Lane & The Disciples are large group and play only about twice a month.

The vocalist Robbie Lane, is on Toronto music scene since the 60's and also has a radio show which features the music of the era.

On the photo is also Glenn Hill (harmonica, vocals).

The Disciples: Robbie Lane (vocals), Steve Shelski (guitar), Glenn Hill (harmonica, vocals), Joe Rigon (drums), Doug Balfour (piano, vocals), Phil Skladowski (bari sax), Ed Zankowski (sax), Joe Agnello (bass), Howard Moore (trumpet).

4 Decades Of Loving Duran Duran, And Finally… - IMRAN™

Duran Duran was one of the great New Wave / New Romantics type music groups I loved during my youth in Lahore, Pakistan. Even in a conservative Muslim country like that, where swooning over music groups was unheard of at least in the 1980s, I think my teenage sister Ambereen & her friends all had a joint “crush” on Simon Le Bon. She may like knowing that Simon named his eldest daughter Amber. 😊

During the 80s I loved their music and also title song for a James Bond film. They sort of faded from the scene until they released Decade In 1989, literally the year I came to America for my Columbia MBA.

A few years later, in 1993, two of their most meaningful and sentimental songs, very different from their previous hits, were released. “Ordinary World” as well as “Come UnDone” came out at a very poignant time for me.

They resonated very closely with relationships in my life and are forever associated with the end of a very special love that specific year. The songs perfectly marked the end of an era of infinite possibilities, and start of a whole incredible new life for me.

A full three decades later, this start of summer weekend in 2023, I finally got around to seeing Duran Duran live, in Tampa. And what an absolutely incredible experience it was. They opened with Night Boat, which is an ok song to me, much that I love night boating. But, every single song they played after that was,and still remains, on my favorites list.

Handbell Musicians of America, Rochester 2016

James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, and record producer. The central progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century music, he is referred to by various nicknames, among them "Mr. Dynamite", "the Hardest-Working Man in Show Business", "Minister of New Super Heavy Funk", "Godfather of Soul", "King of Soul", and "Soul Brother No. 1".[1] In a career that lasted more than 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres.[2] Brown was one of the first ten inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 23, 1986. His music has been heavily sampled by hip-hop musicians and other artists.

There is always music in Tablao, one of the halls in the massive complex of Gran Teatro. Rumba was on the menu and large ensemble was very professional. 4 Singers, 2 trumpets, sax, trombone, bongos, drummer, piano, bass, violin and flute. That's 14 people! I think only bongo player and drummer were men. They can all sing and dance. In addition there were 4 pro dancers trying to lure people on the dance floor. It took a bit of alcohol to do the job, as the evening progressed. The place was filled with locals and tourist about 50/50. ($5 CUC for extranjeros; $2 CUC Habaneros) I used the clean table reflection to double the girl power.

Thank you all for your service today and every day.

If you are of certain age, the hits just kept on rolling. From Rufus Thomas to Mick Jagger. You may actually forget your age, your aching knee on busy dance floor. Nobody was shy to show of their moves at Duke on Queen east. The vocalist Robbie Lane, is on Toronto music scene since the 60's and also has a radio show which features the music of the era. With him is Glenn Hill, who also plays the blues harp.

Despite the musicians names like Zankowski, Skladowski, Shelski; they do not play polka.

Little Magic Sam (Taylor), well known Toronto musician, was a guest Robbie Lane & The Disciples. He has his own band and is a star on Toronto crowded blues scene.

Sam Taylor (now only 27) used to tour Canada singing Sinatra songs. He has twice beaten Justin Bieber in youth competition called 'Rise2Fame'. The Duke is and old hotel which started in 1870 as the Morin House hotel. It used to have mural of John Wayne, but it was actually named after Duke of York (No, not Prince Andrew, who has the title today) .

Fabulous Time Watching Fabulous ABBA The Concert With Fabulous Shannon - IMRAN™ (Part 1)

I have loved ABBA since I first heard them as a pre-teen. My siblings and I also grew up in Pakistan loving their music. We were truly saddened when the group broke up.

Over the next nearly four decades, including my 33 years in America, we hoped that they would reunite. I particularly had mentally budgeted as much as $2000 per ticket if they were ever to go on live tour again. Alas that never happened. I continued to listen to their music.

I was delighted when recently the band members got together to make some new songs. They also took a few years to create a new live concert, but it is basically a live band playing with the avatars and holograms of ABBA in their youth at a special stage in London. While it was interesting to me as someone who loves ABBA and is into 3D and 360° virtual reality, but it was not enough to make me hop on a flight to London just for that.

I am not a big fan of tribute bands, or sound-alike groups, who tour doing the music of old or deceased artists. When I recently heard that ABBA The Concert was coming into town, my first reaction was to shrug my shoulders. But then my love of ABBA kicked in. And I am so glad it did!
