Among the muscle cars, I consider the 'Cuda (full name is Plymouth Barracuda) as one of the rarest because it was only produced for 10 years (1964 - 1974). My favorite version is the "Hemi" 'Cuda, which, under the hood, has the 7.0L Hemispherical V8 producing 425HP. Here, however, we have its little brother, the 440 Cuda that runs on a 7.2 V8 that delivers 390HP to the wheels. The interesting fact about this one is that its purple color is not a modern paint job. The 1971 'Cuda was released with very unique options like special decal sets, hood modifications and several "high impact" colors like this "in-violet". I will say that the Cuda, with its big engine and unusual colors, is quite the head-turner muscle car!

Colorado’s Minturn Yard is bustling with new Southern Pacific GE AC4400CWs on September 5, 1995. To the right on the main line, a helper set trailed by No. 143 returns from pushing tonnage up the 3% grades east (south) of town, while SP No. 280 leads three others on the point of an eastbound coal load waiting for the helpers to pass so it can head east to add two sets of manned helpers to the heavy train. Another AC4400CW helper set led by No. 276 (not in the picture yet) will be cut into the 105-car train 58 cars back, while a second helper set led by No. 200 will be cut in 15-cars from the rear. Ten scarlet and gray AC4400CWs and three crews will soon muscle the hulking train up to the top of Tennessee Pass. Today, Minturn Yard is empty, rusting and sad…

Dodge Charger R/T

Production period 1968/1970.

Dodge Chargers are a great choice for a muscle car restoration project.

Aside from the base 318ci V8, the 383ci motor was offered in both two or four-barrel versions, producing 290 and 330 horsepower, respectively.

On the top of the engine option list was the 375 horsepower 440 Magnum and the legendary 426 Hemi.

Union Depot Train Days 2022 started off right with the ever-popular night photo shoot.

This year, 7 locomotives (a train days record) were in attendance. The stars of the show of course were the SD45s sent down from Duluth, including GN 400, the Hustle Muscle.

The last time I saw Hustle Muscle she was awaiting a new SD45-2 engine to replace the old one that suffered a broken crankshaft. It was around this time that GNRHS elected to have 400 leave MTM's Jackson Street Roundhouse and return to Duluth, where it had been for much of its time pre-Millenium but post-retirement from BN.

The scene is complete with an illuminated "1st" sign, a popular background feature at many night shoots at SPUD. It's fitting, as GN 400 was the first locomotive to be displayed at Union Depot during the first "Train Days" in 2014 (not to mention the 1st production SD45).

To date, Hustle Muscle has made three appearances at Union Depot Train Days, tied-most with Milwaukee Road 32A, which was also in attendance this year.

A personal thank you to everyone involved to make Union Depot Train Days 2022 happen. Haven't missed a Train Days yet, hoping the streak will continue. Also thanks to Steve Glischinski & Chris Guss for organizing another phenomenal night photo shoot.

Maroon 5 - Payphone

I'm at a payphone, trying to call home

All of my change I spent on you

Where have the times gone? Baby, it's all wrong

Where are the plans we made for two?

Yeah, I, I know it's hard to remember

The people we used to be

It's even harder to picture

That you're not here next to me

You say it's too late to make it

But is it too late to try?

And in our time that you wasted

All of our bridges burned down

I've wasted my nights

You turned out the lights

Now, I'm paralyzed

Still stuck in that time

When we called it love

But even the sun sets in paradise

I'm at a payphone, trying to call home

All of my change I spent on you

Where have the times gone? Baby, it's all wrong

Where are the plans we made for two?

If "Happy Ever After" did exist

I would still be holding you like this

All those fairy tales are full of shit

One more fucking love song, I'll be sick (oh)

You turned your back on tomorrow

'Cause you forgot yesterday

I gave you my love to borrow

But you just gave it away

You can't expect me to be fine

I don't expect you to care

I know I've said it before

But all of our bridges burned down

I've wasted my nights

You turned out the lights

Now, I'm paralyzed

Still stuck in that time

When we called it love

But even the sun sets in paradise

I'm at a payphone, trying to call home

All of my change I spent on you (oh, oh)

Where have the times gone? Baby, it's all wrong

Where are the plans we made for two? (Yeah)

If "Happy Ever After" did exist

I would still be holding you like this

And all those fairy tales are full of shit

One more fucking love song, I'll be sick (uh)

Now, I'm at a payphone

Man, fuck that shit

I'll be out spending all this money while you sitting 'round

Wondering why it wasn't you who came up from nothing

Made it from the bottom, now, when you see me, I'm stunning

And all of my cars start with a push of a button

Telling me had chances I blew up or whatever you call it

Switch the number to my phone, so you never could call it

Don't need my name on my show, you can tell that I'm balling

Swish, what a shame could have got picked

Had a really good game, but you missed your last shot

So you talk about who you see at the top

Or what you could've saw, but sad to say, it's over for

Phantom pulled up, valet open doors

Wished I'd go away, got what you was looking for

Now, it's me who they want, so you can go

And take that little piece of shit with you

I'm at a payphone, trying to call home

All of my change I spent on you (woo)

Where have the times gone? Baby, it's all wrong

Where are the plans we made for two? (Yeah, yeah)

If "Happy Ever After" did exist (oh, yeah)

I would still be holding you like this

All these fairy tales are full of shit

Yeah, one more fucking love song, I'll be sick (yeah)

Now, I'm at a payphone

That's one seriously muscle-bound insect! By comparison, humans have just 629 muscles in a considerably larger body.

The caterpillar's head capsule alone consists of 248 individual muscles, and about 70 muscles control each body segment. Remarkably, each of the 4,000 muscles is innervated by one or two neurons.

Caterpillars have 12 eyes.

On each side of its head, a caterpillar has 6 tiny eyelets, called stemmata, arranged in a semi-circle. One of the 6 eyelets is usually offset a bit, and located closer to the antennae. You would think an insect with 12 eyes would have excellent eyesight, but that's not the case. The stemmata serve merely to help the caterpillar differentiate between light and dark. If you watch a caterpillar, you'll notice it sometimes moves its head from side to side. This most likely helps it judge depths and distances.

Another panning shot.

Great Northern SD45 #400, "Hustle Muscle" leads the North Shore Scenic Railroad's weekly "Two Harbors Turn".

This particular excursion (as of 2025) operates once a week on Thursdays, while the "Duluth Zephyr" and "Pizza Express" run Fridays-Sundays.

GN 400 is paired with former Northern Pacific 245, which was also fired up and humming along on this diesel double-header. Naturally, a short chase was in order.

Seeing GN 400 run is like seeing an old friend, as it was 10 years ago it operated in Osceola, WI while on lease to MTM, where I volunteered at the time. The locomotive had an eventful decade since, getting a new 20-645 engine and being re-homed to Duluth. It doesn't operated much, but has seen regular service on most of LSRM's trains in June and now July.

Here the train departs the museum as it traditionally does by shoving out of the depot and onto the NSSR mainline.

With this shot I told the tale of our fabulous good fortune running into a perfectly timed Laurel to Missoula manifest just as we pulled up into Helena: flic.kr/p/2nLG64k

Here's another shot as the pair of SD70ACEs march up through Tobin in this long telephoto view looking downgrade from the Birdseye Rd. crossing near MP 6.2 on Montana Rail Link’s 3rd Subdivision. The state capital of Helena only a half dozen miles east is obscured in a haze of wildfire smoke on this warm late summer day. The duo are assisted by a manned swing helper set of four more ACEs working to boost them up the 2.2% grade to the 5566 ft. top of the Continental Divide about fourteen to the miles west on the original 1883 Northern Pacific mainline, the nation's second transcontinental railroad.
