The barrier island behind the lighthouse has nice beaches on the other side that face on the Adriatic, so you are at the edge of the Venice archipelago. These water buses known as vaporettos make it easy to get around Venice inexpensively. They're part of the Venice ACTV transit system, one pass gives you access to regular buses and trams on the mainland as well.
While it's a fairly long boat ride from central Venice, Murano is well worth the trip. Murano is of course famous for beautiful and fantastic hand-blown glass. The long, central canal seen here is lined with stores selling these beautiful creations mostly by craftsmen in the glass "factories", but also many by artists working in the glass medium. The canal leads to a large lagoon surrounded by glass factories, restaurants and hotels. Murano also has residential neighborhoods populated mostly by people working in Murano.

Clock Tower in the Campo Santo Stefano along with a Murano glass sculpture, "Cometa di Vetro" (Glass comet), by Simone Cenedese.
The clock tower is built in medieval style, but it was erected in 1890.

Pigmente (lateinisch pigmentum für „Farbe“, „Schminke“) sind farbgebende Substanzen, im Gegensatz zu Farbstoffen sind sie im Anwendungsmedium unlöslich. Anwendungsmedium bezeichnet dabei den Stoff, in den das Pigment eingearbeitet wird, beispielsweise in Lack oder in Kunststoffe. Der Oberbegriff für Farbstoffe und Pigmente ist Farbmittel, diese können nach der chemischen Struktur anorganisch oder organisch und nach dem Farbeindruck bunt oder unbunt sein.[1] In der Biologie bezeichnet der Begriff Pigment alle in einem lebenden Organismus farbgebenden Substanzen. Technisch gesehen handelt es sich hierbei um Farbmittel.
Maßgeblich für die Eigenschaften der Pigmente sind neben der chemischen Struktur auch Festkörpereigenschaften wie Kristallstruktur, Kristallmodifikation, Teilchengröße und Teilchengrößenverteilung, letztere durch die spezifische Oberfläche. Der Farbreiz selbst entsteht durch Absorption und Remission (Streuung oder Reflexion) bestimmter Frequenzanteile des sichtbaren Lichts.
