Founded in 1890, close to 800 dhobis and their families live and work in Mumbai's Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat.

The day I visited the place, Mumbai was in festive mood of Ganesh Visarjan and with bakreid around the corner, it was double treat for most of Mumbaikars with couple of days off.

But the dhobis at ghat informed me how they had to attend to constantly flowing collection of soiled clothing shipped from most of Mumbai’s major hotels, hospitals and garment factories. Only day, they say, they take off is during Holi festival.

2 different photographs shot at the same location and on same time merged to create this result. Merging photographs and working on layers is such a hard task but at the same time it gives such immense pleasure to see an alltogether a new photograph emerging and being born from the merging. Normally i started learning to merge with 2 all together different pictures but than I also started playing around with similar shots with similar background. That too is quite interesting.

Rainy season is just round the corner and there will be many symphonies of waves around Marine Drive and Worli Sea Face.

You cannot take my photograph. But yes, you can click my hands, my art/skill with my watches too. This is an art. This is my own work, bringing back movement in the stopped moments. I move along with the times and also accompany the times. Before leaving, give me an ear and listen to my thoughts, “Who ever wants his or her life to get back on the right track should offer Namaaz. We believe and have immense faith in the Almighty but we do not follow His preachings, which we all should”.

After witnessing perfect battle in between two air-conditioned trains at split level tracks, we were lucky to witness yet another perfect crossing of two trains at same split level tracks. Seen here is Kalyan (KYN) WDM-3D # 11359 curving and launching down the gradient in LHF mode with 12071 Dadar - Jalna Jan Shatabdi Express and further crossed one of the hit Mumbaikar’s SEIMENS local coming to halt at Khardi from upper side. 4th Jan dawned to make up my mind for shooting a blue hour of "Mahim ki Dargah" from atop a water tank of opposite bldg ... Though I had some commercial shots all lined up during the day, I postponed all and waited for 5 clock to shoot the Dargah ... took the camera .. tripod .. set up the cam for the blue hour and took off for mahim in a cab ... i was late but still managed to reach the bldg .. when i went to the terrace, I was faced by unanticipated gush of perils. Firstly was shocked to see the entire terrace filled with knee-deep water ..

Anyways, this couldn't stop my passion to shoot the Dargah. I waded through the knee-deep water with drenched jeans, socks & shoes. Slowly, I reached the stairs and saw a broken wooden bed attached to the stairs .. probably the iron stairs had some issue so to climb that they had attached this bed to it ... I have absolutely no fears of climbing, but I always have this phobia of getting down from high places ... Somehow my passion for photography and getting extraordinary visuals makes me brave enough and do the extraordinary...

I got on the stairs and reached the terrace all set to shoot the blue hour .. excitedly i did my first click, and i was thunderstruck when I found the Memory Chip missing ....

*^@%^%***#@&& angry on myself .. disheartened while cursing myself, i got down from there .. took a cab and came back home .. and any wild guess how was my mood?

The next day, I went there again ... does someone know that I don't take defeat easily?

But then this day I was sufficiently rewarded by a lot of fireworks. Firecrackers bursted everywhere, when they reached for the skies & bursted there in various colours and then showered their bounties on both of us, the feel was fantastic - sheer magical..

I have been shooting the Dargah from atop this terrace from past 3 years and just when the Juloos was about to begin the fireworks started .. never ever have witnessed such a grand visual of some amazing fireworks ... this grand celebration lasted for 7 awestruck minutes & made us so happy that Rizwan and I were the "CHOSEN ONES" to be able to watch such a Grand visual ..

Probably it was Baba's will, that i shoud forget the memory chip back home ..coz if i had shot that on Friday .. i would have never come back to shoot on saturday and would have missed this Heavenly feeling

I took a video of it from the terrace .. sharing the divine feeling with you all on youtube ..

10 day Urs/Festival of revered Saint Makhdum Shah Baba ended on 6th Jan 2013.

The 'Saint Ma-Hajiani' Dargah or Mausoleum was built in the year 1908 as a token of devotion and reverence to glorify her pious name and sacred memory by Haji Ismail Hasham, ship-owner and pioneer of Indian shipping, who died on 20th september 1912 and was burried according to his last wishes in the west side grave of this tomb.

The 'Haji Ali Dargah' (Hindi: हाजी अली दरगाह) is a mosque and dargah (tomb) located on an islet off the coast of Worli in Mumbai. Lying as it does in the heart of the city, the dargah is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Mumbai.

The dargah was built in 1431 by a wealthy Muslim merchant and saint named Haji Ali who renounced all his wordly possessions before making a pilgrimage to Mecca. Legend has it that Haji Ali died on his way to Mecca and his body, in its casket, floated back to Mumbai. However, some believe that Haji Ali drowned at the place where the dargah stands today.

As many as 40,000 pilgrims visit the shrine on Thursdays and Fridays. People from all faiths visit & pray at the "dargah"

The whitewashed structure occupies an area of 4,500 metres, and an 85 foot (26 m) tower is the architectural highlight of the edifice. The tomb within the mosque is covered by a brocaded red and green chaddar (tomb cover sheet). It is supported by an exquisite silver frame. The main hall has marble pillars embellished with coloured mirror work: blue, green, yellow chips. The ninety-nine names of Allah are also written on the pillars.

Most of the structure is corroded due to saline winds blowing from the surrounding sea. It was last repaired in the 1960s, but civil engineers say the structure is beyond further repair. The Dargah Trust is awaiting permission to raze the structure and rebuild it with Makrana marble, the same marble used to build the Taj Mahal.

Mumbai Dreams.

Bombay has been my home since birth. It’s my dream to make this home a sanctum of beauty and peace.

The vitality of this city and its ability to make space for all is what appeals to me.

Bombay energises me every day just like the sea blows a new breeze into it every day.

Its magnetic craziness and quiet watchfulness stand testimony to my life.

Women in Bombay stand with their menfolk - complementing and completing. Its true nature…the melody of yin and yang.

We consider ourselves equal but different. Bombay has given us the space to come to our own.

This sanctity falls under danger time and again but then all precious things run the risk of being lost…and its then we realise and strengthen our resolve to protect this sanctity.

As the city grew, the demand for Dabba delivery grew too. The coding system created by our forefather is still prominent in 21st century. Initially it was simple colour coding but now since Mumbai is widely spread metro with 3 local train routes, our coding has also evolved into alpha numeric characters.
