The Selkirk Waterfront development. it is across the inlet from our apartment and was once the site of Victoria’s Saw and Pulp mill industry. As industry died in Victoria and tourism thrived so did the mills on the water. Instead they are being replaced with multiuse Commercial and Residential units. The Selkirk waterfront is one of the more recent ones that has been built and has the most character for showing the history of the area. Throughout the development there are hints of the old mills throughout.
This picture shows the waterfronts main boardwalk with the old wooden posts that used to house the buildings that unloaded the raw materials into the awaiting boats and off to the mainland.
