As you can plainly see in this photo, autumn is typically a quiet time in the Canalside district of downtown Buffalo, New York: the reflecting pools, dug in 2014 on what was once the site of the west end of the Erie Canal, have been drained of water after the end of the summer paddleboating season, but the debut of their wintertime turn as New York State's largest outdoor ice rink is still a month or two in the future. However, open for business is the recently inaugurated Explore & More Children's Museum, situated in a newly constructed building designed to resemble the type of architecture you'd have seen during the industrial heyday of the old Canal District. Rising at left is the only slightly older HarborCenter, a multiuse complex comprising a 205-room Marriott hotel, several shops and restaurants, and two NHL-sized ice rinks that serve as the Buffalo Sabres' practice facility.
