The pilgrims burning joss sticks and performing other rituals while sitting before the crater of mud volcano they name after godess PARVATI. This all is to form the Hinglaj Pilgrimage they are on to perform here.

In May 2006, an eruption of mud began to flow in Sdoarjo Indonesia. The cause of the mud volcano is still disputed, with some theories blaming the drilling of a natural gas well by PT Lapindo Brantas, and others attributing the flow to a distant earthquake. In any case, the mud flow is the largest mud volcano in the world, spewing 180,000 cubic meters of mud per day, and is expected to continue to flow for another 25-30 years. With the eruption, 40,000 villagers were displaced and 20 were killed.

About a decade after the disaster began, these statues were placed to commemorate the lives lost and the lives interrupted. Today, the mud continues to flow.

Depending upon the precise definition of the term mud volcano, the Yellowstone formation could be considered a hydrothermal mud volcano cluster. The feature is much less active than in its first recorded description, although the area is quite dynamic. Yellowstone is an active geothermal area with a magma chamber near the surface, and active gases are chiefly steam, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide. However, there are some Mud Volcanoes and Mud Geysers elsewhere in Yellowstone. One, the "Vertically Gifted Cyclic Mud Pot" sometimes acts as a geyser, throwing mud up to 30 feet high.

This area was under water not too long ago. These mudpots / mud volcanoes are erupting violently! If you decide to visit, don't get too close - they can severely burn you. Also, watch your step - some people have gotten hurt when the ground beneath their feet has collapsed.

 

A mudpot — or mud pool — is a sort of acidic hot spring, or fumarole, with limited water. It usually takes the form of a pool of bubbling mud. The acid and microorganisms decompose surrounding rock into clay and mud.

 

The mud of a mudpot takes the form of a viscous, often bubbling, slurry. As the boiling mud is often squirted over the brims of the mudpot, a sort of mini-volcano of mud starts to build up, sometimes reaching heights of 3–5 feet. Although mudpots are often called "mud volcanoes", true mud volcanoes are very different in nature. The mud of a mudpot is generally of white to greyish color, but is sometimes stained with reddish or pink spots from iron compounds. When the slurry is particularly colorful, the feature may be referred to as a paint pot.

 

Mudpots form in high-temperature geothermal areas where water is in short supply. The little water that is available rises to the surface at a spot where the soil is rich in volcanic ash, clay and other fine particulates. The thickness of the mud usually changes along with seasonal changes in the water table.

 

Mud volcanos and mud pots are in the foreground, and a geothermal power plant is beyond. These natural phenomena are there for you to explore. On the day I went with my friend, we ran into two older men who had come to rub the mud all over themselves. There were hot springs a few miles away where they intended to rinse off.

The Washburn expedition in 1870 first discovered the mud volcano. At that time, what's visible in this photo wasn't there at all. All of this was covered up by a cone shaped dome, I imagine it must have looked like a miniature volcano. But, in 1872, this volcano blew its dome, leaving the bubbling cauldron we see today.

Mud volancoes occurs due to gas releases from rocks, which are located at different depths. On their way to the surface, these involve salty or fresh water, which softens, dissolves and disintegrates encountered rocks, bringing them to the surface on rupture lines, of a pseudolava form.

This newer field of mudpots is very active! Be careful - these get hot enough to burn you! Also, walk carefully as the ground can collapse beneath your feet.

The one inset here is the 2nd one stopover (پڑاؤ) of this YATRA and is called CHANDAR KHUP which is 300 feet highest volcanic muddy mountain which erupts mud out of its crater. According to Hindu belief it is named after lord Shiva and the Hindu community visit this place and perform PUJA and rituals by which they throw coconut, beetle nuts, coins and others things to keep this eruption calm.

Schwabacher’s Landing is one of America’s most spectacular viewpoints, a location that truly showcases the immense beauty of Grand Teton National Park. Just south of Yellowstone National Park, the north-south Teton Range stretches about 40 miles across Wyoming. Bison and elk often are seen grazing in the sparse fields along the base of the mountain range. Toward the northeastern side of the mountains is Jackson Lake. With more than 10 miles of shoreline, the lake offers beautiful crystal-clear reflections in the early morning. The trip to Schwabacher’s Landing is simple. If you’re leaving from Jackson Hole, go north on I-89 for about 16 miles. There’s a small gravel road on your left, where you’ll see a wooden sign: “Schwabacher’s Landing Road.” This road dead-ends in a gravel parking lot, and the trek to the famous vantage point is a stone’s throw from your car. Schwabacher Landing sits at the end of a one-mile gravel road in Jackson Hole about 8 miles from the entrance to the Grand Teton National Park. The landing was formerly a common starting point for rafting trips, but the river channel has shifted westward, making access difficult. We left Yellowstone early in the morning because I wanted to make sure we got to the Schwabacher Landing to catch the morning sun. When we got there there were already a dozen photographers with tripods at various places along the waterfront. This was an incredible stop and a great place to capture the reflections of the Tetons against still water.

The miscellaneous thrown into the mud is pulled out by the men standing there, holding the long bamboos jointed with the net which is dipped into the mud and thrown are brought out which is considered as sacred and are sold out to the buyers who wish to have them.

In de omgeving van Buzâu bevinden zich 2 terreinen met moddervulkanen: de Pâclele Mari en de Pâclele Mici. Deze pseudo-vulkaantjes reiken tot 8 meter hoog en hebben hun uiterlijk verkregen dankzij de eruptie van modder en gas. Het gas zat aanvankelijk zeer diep ondergronds, drong vervolgens via scheuren door verschillende lagen heen naar boven, waarbij het modder en zoet en zoutig water optilde en deze ronde de opening van het vulkaantje afzette. De modder is op zich koud, want deze is immers afkomstig van ondergrondse lagen en niet van de aardmantel zelf.
