On a beautiful, May evening, I got word that the UP was running this (mostly) Military Ammo train down the Kansas Sub towards Topeka. In true PSR-era fashion, this train was running as the KCXNPX (I believe), and had 9300' of both military AND manifest traffic. OK, whatever.
For whatever reason, they had to pick up a pair of units from the yard, giving us this quartet of elephant-style GE's, complete with a SMOKING AC44 on the point. I've never enjoyed these wingless UP units, but the 7272 was putting on quite the show as it pulled through CP Z070, so I'm officially here for this.

This lovely visitor was in my yard this morning. After taking numerous photos of him, I gently moved him across the street--in the same direction that he was originally moving. The cats were very curious about him, I feared that they might get too close for their own good. We usually see box turtles, this is the first time one like this has come through the yard.

Norfolk & Western No.611 moves a freight before dawn in Lancaster County.

While attempting to sleep at the Rutland Amtrak station, we were notified of a nearby train as it blasted through the nearby crossings in the dead, silent night. Quickly setting up the flashes we only had to wait a few minutes before the train slid past us and rain began to drench the scene.
Inside Norfolk Southern's Forrest Yard (now Harris Yard) in Memphis is GP9 PREX 105 and rebuilt GP38-3 NS 5826. PREX 105 is in Gettysburg Railroad paint and was originally built ar GTW 4548 in 1957. NS 5826 was originally SOU 7023 a GP50 built in 1980 and sports the Operation Lifesaver logo.
When we feel stuck, look at the sky. The clouds remind us that everything changes.

Tier 3 "heavies", officially ES44ACH's, move north up BN 2 at 30th St. as they lead BNSF train E-PAMBAM0-09A off the BNSF Ft. Scott Sub and onto the KCT. Though the trucks and underframe are becoming filthy as expected, the engines themselves are still fairly clean, at least compared to most power on the BNSF these days.
What's one thing that's different about this shot now? That's right, the Imperial Brewery was finally demolished recently. The curve here is nice, but without that structure in the background, this shot just isn't the same anymore. 5/24/25.
The light and sunray photo opportunities seem almost constant at the moment in North Wales.
