“Our lives at times seem a study in contrast… love & hate, birth & death, right & wrong… everything seen in absolutes of black & white. Too often we are not aware that it is the shades of grey that add depth & meaning to the starkness of those extremes.” – Ansel Adams

First snow on the Mission Mountains near Ninepipe Wildlife Refuge in Montana

In Greenland's high Arctic region, a remnant of glacier ice seems lost in the reflection of a coastal mountain range. The swirling effect of the sea was caused by our passing ship.

A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across Convict Lake to nearby mountains of the Mammoth Area ranges. This is on the Lakeshore Trail in Inyo National Forest. while there was definitely quite a bit of wildfire haze and smoke present that afternoon, I attempted to best compose what was visible for an image captured with some nearby trees, the reflections off the lake waters, and then the mountains. I later worked with ClearView Plus tool before using control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 to make some adjustments and bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

The 'Lago la Vasa de la Mora' is in the Haut-Aragon region of Spain and several cromlechs and a dolmen can be seen at this relatively high altitude (1900m). After a period of high rain, the valley prior to the lake flooded, affording this temporary reflection. The site is just after the refuge Lavasar - effectively a welcome 5 person box with a fireplace that will take sleeping bags in the event of storms or two day hikes.

In an epic battle with 900 other photographers I came out on top with this photo.

For those have stood on the shore of Jenny Lake and looked westward toward the Tetons, the view is undeniably both rugged and beautiful. Yet in the high country of Kings Canyon National Park, there is a view that rivals the view at Jenny Lake--indeed, a view that surpasses it, in my humble opinion (although I may be partial to the Sierra Nevada!). This photo depicts that view from a hike I took last summer into Kings Canyon from Onion Valley.

On the last night in Glacier National Park this year, nature decided to show off an incredible sunset at my favorite place on earth. I watched the ever-changing colors for at least an hour...and so did this person on the shore of Swiftcurrent Lake. A beautiful way to end the last night there. I'll be back!

I could never get enough of this place!!!

I believe this is Mount Lawrence Grassi, Canmore, Alberta at sunrise. Taken from the Three Sisters reflecting pond that used to be a bit unknown, but I noticed it is now on Google Maps...go figure....

This was from Takhlakh Lake

reflecting Mount Adams. The bear grass was just beginning to grow along the sides of the lake. I used the two trees to frame the mountain.

Warning: If you plan to go up there soon beware of super hungry mosquitoes that I promise will eat you alive - you will need a lot of bug spray and a net if you have one !

It is almost impossible to even get them off your lens.

Because of Yosemite's strict limitations on visitors this summer due to coronavirus, the staffed camp next to May Lake was closed and number of visitors far fewer than normal... which meant that as of mid-morning, I had the lake all to myself. Stillness of both water and air. It was sublime.

Later in the day I'd go on to climb Mount Hoffmann, the leftmost of the two peaks above. Even then, I was the only one out there on the way up, and saw only a party of two on the way down. A once-in-a-lifetime experience for a clear summer day, as this is a popular area.

While walking the Lakeshore Trail with a view looking to the southwest across Convict Lake in Inyo National Forest. My thinking in composing this image was to capture a leveled-on view with the mountains and nearby lake. Reflections off the waters would be balanced with the horizon and actual mountains in this part of the national forest. While there was a substantial haze from the nearby national forest wildfires, I was able to use the DxO PhotoLab Clearview Plus tool to bring out more natural colors from the landscape present.

Mount Hood’s grandeur mirrored in the calm waters of Trillium Lake.

Mount Rundle from one of the Vermillion Lakes, in Alberta, Canada. If you look closely, you can see a train off in the distant.

Golden aspen trees and snow-dusted peaks glow under the first light of day in this stunning view of the Maroon Bells in Colorado. The fiery alpenglow reflects perfectly on the still mountain pond below, creating a magical blend of color, texture, and tranquility that defines the beauty of fall in the Rockies.

I'm just back from spending 8 days in the stunningly beautiful south island of New Zealand. I have a fondness for this lake as I first went there with friends back in 2016 and managed to capture a stunning sunrise back then too.

The weather changes so quickly here - I photographed this scene and then as sunrise crept closer all the clouds disappeared and was left with just a blue sky. I was feeling very disappointed but then I watched just a few little clouds began to creep over the mountains and then this happened!!
