Decided to try rowing for a bit today... was able to knock out 10,000 meter in just under 39:00... So I guess that's my message for today. Try something new. Holy sh$&. There are some days you just don't have it.. today was one for me. But I guess that's where character is tested. As cliche as it is, when things get tough, you need to be tougher. I guess it was easy for me as I looked down at my shirt 😏 After a highly anaerobic crossfit workout, I pushed through 10 awful miles. But the work wasn't finished. I still had 20 more on the bike. And I pushed through. It's all in my head.. I know I can do it! I've done much harder things before. So I needed to buckle down and get it done. And I did. Tomorrow is another day. And I can't wait to attack it. But never forget today's theme: character. Because it's how you react when you're in pain that will truly define you in the long run. Don't give up. Slowly, but surely... I struggled through my run today. Provided, it was after a good amount of squats.. but I still struggled. Because I think all too often, we give up because we think things should be better than they are. And the struggle is too overwhelming. A vision is absolutely necessary, but it's just a dream if you don't take some sort of action to make it happen right away. The most important thing I think one can do is fall in love with the process, because that's where you're spending most of your time. Winning and success lasts for 30 seconds, but it's who you become during that process that you live with day in and day out. Trust the process. This is a little letter to myself today... Sometimes life is going to nip at your feet. It will annoy the crap out of you until you are standing in a pool of your own blood. In that instance, just learn to enjoy the pain. Enjoy the struggle. Because sometimes there is nothing better than getting done with a 20 mile run to find your shoes soaked with blood. As odd as it is, it's fulfilling. The more pain you endure the stronger you grow as a person. So here's my advice to myself.. love the pain and dance in the rain. Probably my favorite shirt that I own. We all fall down in life guys, all that matter is getting back up. If there is anything I have learned in my brief time on this earth its that change is constant and mistakes are inevitable. For so long, I've tried to completely change myself in order to stop making mistakes. But that's just not possible. The only thing you can do is sincerely try your best and get back up every time you fall down. Don't strive for perfection. Strive for persistence. Because your self esteem is going to take a huge hit if you continue to expect perfection out of yourself... I will always persist until I succeed. .. PS. Grinding can only take you so far. Sometimes the best thing you can do is not to care at all. It's definitely not the end-all-be-all, but it's definitely a different approach to motivation that your typical "shoot for the moon" response. So here's my little tip for the day... stop trying so damn hard and let life pull you along. You cannot push a boulder up a mountain, sometimes you just have to let it tumble down the hill and there's nothing you can do about it. Today I ran 16.5 miles. Biked 25. And had a solid crossfit workout. About 4.5 hours in total. .. So what do I do with the rest of my time? Make the world a better place. In my own way. I absolutely love my company @baswaacousticna. I never thought I'd be selling acoustical plaster, but it's funny how life works out. Chase opportunity. It's amazing what happens. .. The point is to find the meaning in your work. When it's purpose driven, you always seem to do better and feel better. Not many people are going to say that acoustical plaster makes the world a better place, but in my eyes, it does. And that's all that really matters. Find the meaning in your work. Completed in 2:30:23 BY FAR the hardest workout I have ever completed... I don't normally post my workouts, but this one deserves a little respect... After feeling winded after a 4.5 hour training day yesterday, I decided to attack instead of lay off. I made it two rounds into this and honestly did not think I was going to finish... but there is a power in us that we can't even begin to fathom. Alright. So today, I was exhausted from a long week of workouts and work. I spent most of my day enjoying laziness, when I got a little notification saying my @lovethepain_official order had arrived. I think it's a daily battle we all face.. stay in bed? Or get up and attack? Instead of crashing early, I'm on the bike for 40 miles tonight followed by 5 or 6 miles of light jogging. Small steps. .. Therefore, today's message is all about momentum. Because it's the microscopic decision that will ultimately build us into the person we want to be. Habits. Standards. Values. These are what create our outcome. But you can create the wrong kind of momentum by living against your values. Never let someone else talk you into something that you don't believe in. Well guys, it's day two! And the grind continues. Today, I ran the first "easy" sub 7 minute mile run in a long while. It was 7 miles, but the wind was brutal. Followed it up with a solid crossfit workout and a 10 mile bike. Safe to say I'm back in stride (no pun intended). .. Patience is the key for me right now. I'm not going to sprint to the finish. It'll take some time. A lot of time. But I have my goals clearly set and I am pursuing them full throttle. I think this is one thing that I struggle with more than anything. I get frustrated with my lack of progress. We probably all do. And then our frustration leads to hopelessness. That's why it's always encouraging to have someone there to keep you sane. This woman has not only given me life, but she has saved my life. She has literally shown me a glimpse of God's love with the unconditional care she displays. I was laying in bed this morning not wanting to move. But I heard my moms voice telling me to get my a$$ out of bed and go to church. So that's exactly what I did. Even though she's hundreds of miles away, she's probably the biggest influence in my life. She will always inspire me to get back up again. Okay, so not the most flattering picture in the world... but I'm down 10 pounds so far since I've turned it on. Capped the week with an 18.5 mile run and a 15 mile bike (yes, I was watching the @cavs and @indians the whole time). Making it a 55 mile week running and 100 mile week biking. .. Today, my focus was on consistency. So many of us want to magically get in shape, or get the sale, or get a degree without being willing to put in the work. And as it's been said, it's not the things you do once in awhile that create who you are, it's what you do consistently. (Thank you Aristotle). It's something that we all should live by. Energy is never lost. It's transferred. There has been so much negative energy running through me that I never thought I could shake. I honestly thought it would be the end of me.
