With shutter speed at 1/26000 sec, RAW mode enabled and single shot.
I took this picture outdoors, with a metalic bowl and used camera flash at minimum (don't have external flash..) and with my cam on a tripod.
Although this is my first attempt with this kind of pictures, I'm happy with the resoults.

i am a developer for CHDK for two years now. but i have never tried to shoot lightnings using the motion detection feature.
until yesterday.
one the 2 shots was handheld, IMPOSSIBLE without CHDK, as you would have to do a bulb exposure.
CHDK motion detection rocks the house. set up the cam, leave the cam, come back later with 99% perfect lightning pictures. this aint no lie.
Use Water to help suction pad stick better. * Press Menu and the right arrow to turn on the LEDs. * Press Menu and the left arrow to turn off the LCD to save power. * You can charge the device from the included Car charger or using the USB cable with your PC.

The CHDK motion-detection script was still on my mind as I started planning a shot for the "ice" theme, so I thought... why not?
This is the first bird that I've photoed for the series. This is un-cropped. Needless to say, I have quite a few settings to change.
In issue 173 of Computer Arts I show you how to control the volume and pan of a song using some simple motion detection.
Two pictures combined. Both taken while trying to figure out how to get motion detection working.
Is it narcissism if the camera takes the photo instead of the me?
Alternate shot for PhotoChallenge.org 2009 Challenge, Day 119: Ice
The original of this shot was much the same as the other one, with the hammer "frozen" (pun intended) in its motion. I selected the hammer (with the "smart scissors") and added the motion blur on a separate layer in GIMP. It's not perfect, but I think at least half-way convincing for a quick hack. Would appreciate your feedback.
