Ightham Mote is a 700 year old medieval moated Manor House set in the Kent Countryside near Sevenoaks......
One of its first owners was Robert Cawne. He was sent to the Tower of London for trying to kill his wife Marjory by throwing her down the well! He was eventually pardoned by the King but little was known about him afterwards....In some of the promotional material he is described as a bit of a character....🤔.
The house has more than 70 rooms, all arranged around a central courtyard. The house is surrounded on all sides by a square moat, crossed by three bridges....
Thanks for visiting.....

One of the oldest surviving medieval manor houses in England, the core of Ightham Mote dates from the 1340s.
Flickr Lounge weekly theme - weather. Dark, cold and very windy.
Hope you can spot the fence for FF too.
The inner courtyard of this old manor house in Kent. It is one of the oldest medieval manor houses to survive in England, with the first owners having lived here in about 1360. The house has had many additions and alterations since then, the timber beams were added in Victorian times "to make the building look old"!
HBM!
Another photo from here, showing the moat, is in the first comment.
