This animal, the giant anteater, is easily one of the most striking of all the rainforest mammals, with a vivid white and black striped pattern on its coat and a long feather-like tail. They use their huge front claws to dig up ant colonies. The claws are so long that these animals must walk on the side of their feet. Although they live in rainforests, this species is actually more commonly and easily seen in tropical grasslands.

National Zoo scientists set up camera traps in a remote section of the Amazon rain forest to gather data about the variety of species that inhabit it. Learn more about the project here: nationalzoo.si.edu/ConservationAndScience/MAB/research/ar...

Just a quick fig, similar to my last fig, but not really. I kinda like him, maybe I'll use him in the project.

Sorry for the delayed desc. by the way, I was caught while typing it when I was supposed to do my hw.

This superb and breathtaking exhibition “Iris van Herpen. Sculpting the Senses,” currently on view at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, pays tribute to one of the most visionary fashion designers of her generation – and the simple term “fashion” almost seems out of place here as conventional standards of clothing are largely transgressed.

This retrospective is structured around nine themes and identifies the very essence of van Herpen’s work fusing fashion, contemporary art, design and science (and I could add: architecture).

Much more than an exhibition dedicated to Haute Couture, “Iris van Herpen. Sculpting the Senses", invites the visitor on an immersive journey into this singular and hybrid universe, punctuated by the designer's research and experiments.

One simple piece of advice: run for it!!!

COSMIC BLOOM

In her exploration of the cosmos, Iris van Herpen shows her talent for synthesis, combining the latest scientific discoveries with the history of art and science, blending the ancient maps of Andreas Cellarius with images from the James Webb telescope. The cosmos and its mysteries pique her imagination and her creativity. Like a metaphor of her holistic approach, the cosmos incarnates a space in which one can deploy oneself without limit, a symbol of absolute liberty. Colours float and come alive, offering new horizons for a body in levitation. For the designer, to understand the cosmos is to overturn the order of time and space and achieve elevation. The world becomes an all-encompassing entity, greater than the confines of planet Earth. It no longer develops from bottom up or top down, but in all of its dimensions simultaneously, as a multiverse, with no borders except those of the mind and the imagination, the soul and its cosmic journey.

--------------------------------------

Most of you know by now how I love 'playing' with light, a never ending beautiful challenge, food for my creative soul, which I so desperately need at the moment...

I love my job, but contrary to what most 'enthusiasts' think, and wish it was their 'job', pro photographic work is often boring, the clients tell you what they want, if they know what they want, which is not always the case, that, or they DO know and just can't bring it across, there's not much space for personal input (not by lack of trying!!!).

This here is my FREEDOM!

Each flower or object, most definitely people, seem to have a different 'personality' which I'm trying to capture. View On Black

Alstroemeria, the genus named after the Swedish baron Alströmer who brought them back from a trip to South America in 1753. Also called the Peruvian Lily or Inca Lily, is a South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants.

The flower, which resembles a miniature lily, is very popular for bouquets and flower arrangements in the commercial cut flower trade. They have a vase life of about two weeks.

Canada's most impressive tribute overseas to those Canadians who fought and gave their lives in the First World War is the majestic and inspiring Canadian National Vimy Memorial which overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, about ten kilometres north of Arras. The Memorial does more than mark the site of the engagement that Canadians were to remember with more pride than any other operation of the First World War. It stands as a tribute to all who served their country in battle in that four-year struggle and particularly to those who gave their lives. At the base of the Memorial, these words appear in French and in English: To the valour of their Countrymen in the Great War And in memory of their sixty Thousand dead this monument Is raised by the people of Canada. Carved on the walls of the monument are the names of 11,285 Canadian soldiers who were killed in France and whose final resting place was then unknown. Standing on the monument’s wide stone terrace overlooking the broad fields and rolling hills of Northern France, one can see other places where Canadians fought and died. More than 7,000 are buried in 30 war cemeteries within a 20-kilometre radius of the Vimy Memorial. Altogether, more than 66,000 Canadian service personnel died in the First World War.Designed by Canadian sculptor and architect Walter Seymour Allward, the monument took eleven years to build. It rests on a bed of 11,000 tonnes of concrete, reinforced with hundreds of tonnes of steel. The towering pylons and sculptured figures contain almost 6,000 tonnes of limestone brought to the site from an abandoned Roman quarry on the Adriatic Sea (in present day Croatia). The figures were carved where they now stand from huge blocks of this stone. A cloaked figure stands at the front, or east side, of the monument overlooking the Douai Plain. It was carved from a single, 30-tonne block and is the largest piece in the monument. This sorrowing fi gure of a woman represents Canada—a young nation mourning her dead. Below is a tomb, draped in laurel branches and bearing a helmet and sword..

Shravanabelagola (Kannada:ಶ್ರವಣಬೆಳಗೊಳ Śravaṇa Beḷagoḷa) is a city located near Channarayapatna of Hassan district in the Indian state of Karnataka and is 158 km from Bangalore, the capital of the state. The statue of Gommateshvara Bahubali at Shravanabelagola is one of the most important tirthas (pilgrimage destinations) in Jainism, one that reached a peak in architectural and sculptural activity under the patronage of Western Ganga dynasty of Talakad. Chandragupta Maurya is said to have died here in 298 BCE after he became a Jain monk and assumed an ascetic life style.

LOCATION

Shravanabelagola is located at 13 km to the south-east of Channarayapatna in the Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district of Karnataka. It is at a distance of 51 km south-east of Hassan, Karnataka, the district centre. It is situated at a distance of 12 km to the south from the Bangalore-Mangalore road (NH-48), 78 km from Halebidu, 89 km from Belur, 83 km from Mysore, 233 km from Mangalore, 17 km from Hirisave and 157 km from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka.

ETYMOLOGY

Shravanabelagola "White Pond of the Shravana" is named with reference to the colossal image of Gommaṭa - the prefix Śravaṇa serves to distinguish it from other Belagolas with the prefixes Hale- and Kodi-, while Beḷagoḷa "white pond" is an allusion to the pond in the middle of the town. The Sanskrit equivalents Śvetasarovara, Dhavalasarovara and Dhavalasarasa used in the inscriptions that support this meaning.

Some inscriptions mention the name of the place as Beḷguḷa, which has given rise to another derivation from the plant Solanum ferox (hairy-fruited eggplant). This derivation is in allusion to a tradition which says that a pious old woman completely anointed the colossal image with the milk brought by her in a gullakayi or eggplant. The place is also designated as Devara Beḷgoḷa "White Pond of the God" and Gommaṭapuram "city of Gommaṭa" in some epigraphs.

HISTORY

Shravanabelagola has two hills, Chandragiri and Vindhyagiri. Acharya Bhadrabahu and his pupil Chandragupta Maurya are believed to have meditated there. Chandragupta Basadi, which was dedicated to Chandragupta Maurya, was originally built there by Ashoka in the third century BC. Chandragiri also has memorials to numerous monks and Śrāvakas who have meditated there since the fifth century AD, including the last king of the Rashtrakuta dynasty of Manyakheta. Chandragiri also has a famous temple built by Chavundaraya

The 58-feet tall monolithic statue of Gommateshvara is located on Vindyagiri Hill. It is considered to be the world's largest monolithic stone statue. The base of the statue has an inscriptions in Prakrutha i.e. devnagari script, dating from 981 AD. The inscription praises the king who funded the effort and his general, Chavundaraya, who erected the statue for his mother. Every twelve years, thousands of devotees congregate here to perform the Mahamastakabhisheka, a spectacular ceremony in which the statue is anointed with Water, Turmeric, Rice flour, Sugar cane juice, Sandalwood paste, saffron, and gold and silver flowers. The next Mahamastakabhisheka will be held in 2018. The Statue is called as 'Statue of Gommateshvara' by the Kannada people of Karnataka, but the jains refer to the same as "Bahubali".

INSCRIPTIONS

More than 800 inscriptions have been found at Shravanabelagola, dating to various times from 600 to 1830. A large number of these are found in the Chandragiri and the rest can be seen in the Vindhyagiri Hill and the town. Most of the inscriptions at the Chandragiri date back before the 10th century. These inscriptions include texts in the Kannada, The second volume of Epigraphia Carnatica, written by B. Lewis Rice, is dedicated to the inscriptions found here. It is said to be the oldest Konkani inscription. The inscriptions are written in various Halegannada (Old Kannada) and Purvahalagannada (Ancient Kannada) characters. Some of these inscriptions mention the rise and growth in power of the Western Ganga Dynasty, the Rashtrakutas, the Hoysala Empire, the Vijayanagar Empire and the Wodeyar dynasty. These inscriptions have helped modern scholars to understand the nature and development of the Kannada language and its literature.

On August 5, 2007, the statue at Shravanabelagola was voted by the readers of Times of India as the first of the Seven Wonders of India. 49% votes went in favor of the statue.

BASADI

1. Akkana Basadi: built in 1181 A.D. Akkana Basadi has twenty-third Jain Tirthankar (saint) Parshwanath as main deity of the temple.

2. Chandragupta basadi: established in 9th century. The middle cell of this temple has the figure of Parshvanatha, the one to the right the figure of Padmavathi and the one to the left the figure of Kushmandini, all in a seated posture.

3. Shantinatha Basadi: This temple is dedicated to Shantinatha. It was built around 1200 A.D.

4. Parshwanatha Basadi: This is a beautiful structure with decorated outer walls. The image of Parshwanatha is the tallest on the hill which is 18 feet in height. The manastambha (pillar) is sculptured on all four sides which contains the figure of Padmavathi on the south, Yaksha on the east, seated Kushmandini on the north and a galloping horseman on the west. The pillars in the navaranga are of round Ganga type with bell, vase and wheel mouldings.

5. Kattlae Basadi: This is situated to the left of Parshwanatha Basadi and in fact this is the biggest of all the Basadis on this hill. Kattlae Basadi has first Jain Tirthankar (saint) Rishabhnatha as main deity of the temple. Here one finds the image of Adinatha Thirthankara and also of Pampavathi in the Kaisale.

6. Chandraprabha Basadi: It is dedicated to the worship of the Eighth Thirthankara, Chandraprabha. The images of Shyama and Jwalamalini, Yaksha and Yakshi are to be found. The basadi is a brick structure raised over a stone base. This temple might be one of the oldest on the hill and its date would be about 800 A.D. It is said to have been constructed by the Ganga king Sivamara II.

7. Suparshwanatha Basadi: Seven headed serpent is carved over the head of the Suparshvanatha image.

8. Chamundarayaraya basadi: is the finest and one of the largest temples on the hill.It is dedicated to Neminatha, the twenty second tirthankara. The sukhanasi consists of good figures of Sarvahna and Kushmandini, the yaksha and yakshi of Neminatha. It is dated back to 982 A.D.

9. Chavundaraya Basadi: This Basadi was constructed in 982 by Chavundaraya. It is dedicated to the worship of Neminatha Swamy, the 22nd Thirthankara. This is constructed as the most beautiful of all the Basadis.

OTHER NOTABLE THINGS

Shravanabelagola is the seat of the ancient Bhattaraka Matha, belonging to the Desiya Gana lineage of Mula Sangh, from the Digambara monstic tradition. The Bhattarakas are all named Charukirti. Bahubali College of Engineering is an educational institute at Śravaṇa Beḷgoḷa.

Most of the night I was facing my lens directly towards King Fire in as open a spot as possible. However, I'm almost always pleased when I try taking the "less obvious" shot, so I walked around to the opposite side of the structure. This shot is taken through the windows of Big Hill Lookout of two Forest Service Employees keeping watch.

Most of the migrating Rufous Hummers have already passed through this mountainous area. These native guys will be headed lower and southward very soon... most of the adults are already gone. This guy has the beginnings on his chin of what will eventually be a solid red gorget of the males. He is also exhibiting what Sibley calls the "4-o'clock shadow."

Measuring your stoma is one of the most crucial skills to know. Not only will it help you prevent leaks, but it will also allow you to extend the appliance wear time. It will ultimately help you save your #skin.

In this article, we will discuss how to measure your stoma.

Note that this guide is for people who have a round-shaped and adequately protruded #stoma. This guide will help people with colostomies, ileostomies, and urostomies. You may not get perfect results if your stoma is flush or overly protruded.

Similarly, if you have a loop ostomy, it will not be possible for you to benefit from a circular guide. You are going to have to be creative while measuring the stoma to create a perfect flange’s opening. One way to use a circular guide for a loop stoma is to use a half-circle. This way, you will be able to get the required shape of the opening.

Every skin wafer is different from the others. All wafers are made to swell when they come in contact with the stomal output, but the degree at which they swell may vary from brand to #brand. That said, you may want to create an opening slightly larger than your stoma. It will allow the flange to expand without strangling your stoma. It is crucial to get a flange that gives your stoma enough space to expand when waste contents pass out of it. You will, of course, need to make sure that the flange sticks well to your skin.

Change in the stoma size

The change in the size of the stoma is inevitable in the first few weeks after #surgery. There will be swelling in the stoma right after surgery. Over time, this swelling subsides, and the stoma settles to an almost permanent shape 6-8 weeks after surgery. It is the normal process to anticipate.

A stoma can also change its size due to certain changes in the body. For instance, there may be a change in the shape and size of the stoma when you gain or lose weight. Some conditions that may result in the change of the size of the stoma include a prolapsing and parastomal hernia. You can make an accurate opening to make the #flange fitting the shape and size of your stoma.

You may want to use the following supplies while measuring your stoma.

• A measuring guide. It will be particularly beneficial if you are using cut-to-fit #ostomy barriers.

• Ostomy barrier #scissors. These scissors help you create an opening that will not have sharp edges.

• A marker for tracing.

• Gauze to keep your stoma dry. You are going to need it when you are not wearing anything over your stoma. It is typically more beneficial if you have a #urostomy.

• Mirror. It will be helpful if your stoma is away from the scope of vision due to any reason.

Most cut-to-fit wafers come with markers that allow you to create an opening of the exact shape and size of your choice. You may want to learn about creating an opening from your ostomy care nurse.

Bayrischer Hof the most favorite Hotel of Munich

Trek Day 8 - Concordia (4700m).

For orientation, imagine Concordia as a 'T' junction of glaciers. The bottom of the 'T' represents the snout of the 60km long Baltoro Glacier. As you make your way up to the junction, Gasherbrum-IV ((7925m), resembling an inverted 'V', lies directly in front of you. At the left and right corners of the junction are Marbal Peak (6256m) and Mitre Peak (6010m) respectively. On the right of the junction is the Vigne Glacier and you can see the Golden Throne (7312m) and Chogolisa (7653m) lie on its either side like guardians to a throne room. On the left of the junction is Godwin-Austin Glacier. At the head of Godwin-Austin Glacier is the majestic pyramid of K-2. At 8611m, K-2 is the second highest mountain in the world. Chagori, the Balti name of K-2, means the King of Mountains. I would say that K-2 has a fitting local name and a worthy setting.

K-2 is located on the border between China and Pakistan. The first westerner who saw the peak was probably Lieutenant T.G. Montgomerie. In 1856, he was surveying the mountains in the area and spotted the extraordinary peaks of Karakoram, which he gave temporary names: K for Karakoram plus a number for each peak, e.g. K-1, K-2, K-3, etc.

Dubbed the "Savage Mountain", K-2 is arguably the hardest climb in the world. The routes to the summit are steeper and more difficult than those to the top of Everest. The weather is also significantly colder and less predictable. Thus, reaching the top of K-2 is the equivalent of winning the Olympic gold in mountaineering. In terms of the number of accidents that had happened on the descent, it is the most deadly mountain in the world. The greatest loss of lives occurred in the K-2 Tragedy of 1986 when 13 climbers from several expeditions died in a severe storm. Legend says that K-2 carries a curse on women. The first woman to reach the summit was Wanda Rutkiewicz in 1986. The next five women to reach the summit are all dead; three of them died on the way down. Rutkiewicz herself died on a different climb in 1992.

In spite of the dangers, the mountain continues to lure climbers to its slopes of dark gray rock. It is the ultimate fear and as such must be faced and overcome by climbers aiming for alpine excellence. In scaling Everest, you are a great climber to the world; to summit K-2, and you are a true climber to the climbers. K-2 is the jealous king to Sagarmatha (Mother Goddess), the Nepalese name for Everest. It is an unforgiving, handsome and mighty mountain. It is said that if the King's crown is what you come for, be prepared to risk it all.

Most desert areas in this region have colonies of ground-dwelling squirrels... there are several species here. This group really blends into their desert background... a good thing for their survival! This a family that entertained us by romping around between openings to their underworld dwelling. They're spooky... but quiet patience pays off. These two siblings stayed close to Mom while their more adventurous brother preferred to explore on his own.

Most Land-Rover vehicles are so well known due to their long lives and iconic status but the poor old Series IIA Forward Control has largely been forgotten or certainly sidelined. Only produced until the mid 1970's it was never a common sight on our roads so imagine my joy when I heard Matchbox were modelling one.

Debuting in the latest mix of Moving Parts they've given it a non standard camper van rear body and it looks absolutely superb. Detailing and casting crispness is exquisite despite a predictable amount of plastic used plus the side door opens to reveal a full camper interior.

Most honeybees in the UK live in hives managed by beekeepers. Each hive can contain over 20,000 bees. Only worker honeybees make delicious honey, using nectar gathered from flowers.

"Now that is what I call a Re-enactment!

Bartimaeus the blind beggar

May the Peace of the Risen Christ be with you! Easter is here.

We had a most successful Re-enactment of Our Lord's Passion. After so many months of preparation, sewing machines running hot updating costumes, actors learning lines, sound systems being upgraded and more, there we stood at 11am on Good Friday with microphone in hand: "Welcome to the 2018 Re-enactment of Our Lord's Passion!" And so it began.

How do we measure "success" in regards to our re-enactment?

On one measure you can use crowd numbers, donations, "Likes" and Shares and that would be appropriate if this was just a normal play. Even on that basis our event would certainly be considered a success with somewhere around 5,000 people participating and lots of great feedback and support.

But how do you measure success for a play that tries to be an authentic re-enactment of the Passion of Jesus Christ based on scripture and tradition of the Church? In this case we were told by the Pauline Fathers that many people came back and they were hearing confessions the whole day.

We saw many people following the play and praying along with us.

Crowning with Thorns

Many came up to us after the play thanking us for such an invigorating presentation of our Lord's Passion. Here are some of the early tales we have been told of the day.

One of the biggest challenges with a moving play is the safety of actors, crew and pilgrims as the play moves from scene to scene. We try many methods such as fixed tape and ropes as well as rope held by our marshalls. Enforcement for keeping the crowd back tends to fall towards the soldiers who, like in a theatre restaurant, instruct the crowd to move back for their own safety. Our photographer, eager to get "the photo", allowed a little old lady to sneak past the barriers so she could touch the cloak of Jesus. As the Centurion swung his arm giving orders to his soldiers, this lady who stood upright under his swing moved forward. "What the?" cried the Centurion and firmly moved her back with instructions. I thought she would be concerned at the firm treatment but she was grinning ear to ear and holding her bag telling her family, "I touched his cloak!"

I touched Jesus' Robes!

Some of our Marshalls volunteered to help on the day. Often these had not experienced the fluid intensity of a moving play like this and even though they were holding on to the rope barrier, found themselves sucked into the crowd. When the Centurion or one of the soldiers noticed their lost marshall and we heard the cry, "Get him out of there!" as they reached in and brought him back into line.

Our marshalls and soldiers request people to stay back for their own safety. When the Roman soldiers and Jewish guards broke out into another scuffle we heard the cry, "They're fighting again!" and the crowd suddenly made space. "Please stand back for your own safety," we once more cried as the procession moved on.

When Jesus was being scourged, the process started with one Roman making a few lashes. Then he gets moved back with the cry, "Let someone do it properly!" The primary flogging Roman soldier let fly with the whip dipped in the fake blood. Drops of blood flew in an arc and the soft straps struck Jesus with a satisfying slap and Jesus cried out. The crowd stopped chattering with an audible gasp.

One of our new actors had not actually attended the play in past years so this was all an amazing experience. When Jesus was being scourged and mocked, tears came to her eyes, but the Woman of Jerusalem in charge held her and said, "Don't cry yet. We have to call for his crucifixion in the next scene." So she held back her tears and like a trooper joined the crowd calling for Jesus' crucifixion. As she said afterwards, it won't be the same contemplating the story of Jesus' Passion in future.

At the start of the play we made sure the actors and crew knew that this was a "Live" play. That meant no retakes, no pause to re-do the scene, no stepping in to try again. "The play must go on!" we instructed. "After all, the pilgrims haven't read the script and the story won't be affected if your lines are not exact. So long as we get the important bits in the right order, no-one will know." That was good advice.

When Pontius Pilate was standing majestically on the balcony addressing the crowd, the sign of Roman Superiority detached from the balcony railing and fell to the ground with a crash. Pontius Pliate's eyes opened wide for a brief moment and then he turned his gaze back to the Crowd and Caiaphas and the Jews and continued as if nothing was wrong. The crew quickly removed the sign and all moved on as if this was part of play. We were told afterwards how clever this was, the falling of the sign representing the fall of Roman Justice. The play must go on.

Although we have a script which covers all the main dialogue and actions, the flavour comes from the interactions and improvised dialogue of the actors. Insults between the Jews and Romans provided occasional humour too. At the crucifixion, one of the Jewish Chief Priests called out "How many Romans does it take to Crucify someone?" Being sick of their taunts a Roman Guard approached them and said, "I have room for one more. Are you ready?" The Chief Priest stepped back behind the Jewish Guards and replied, "I have an appointment tomorrow and can't today."

We will report further tales as they come to light, but I want to end this post-play post with some heartfelt thanks. When organising an event like this where there are months of preparation involving over 100 cast, crew and support organisations, the whole thing only works when people do their part. This year worked so well because everyone did their part, no matter how small that part may have appeared. The actors didn't just remember their lines, but they also worked with their fellow actors and added their own ideas for their character. For example, the actor playing the blind beggar Bartimeus had the idea of having a blindfold and sat in his spot near the start of the play, begging for alms for about 20 minutes before the play reached him. Then he improvised with many calls for alms and requests about what the commotion was. It was a great job which really brought out the character of the blind beggar. It may have only been a bit part, but it formed part of the greater whole.

The same applied for each of the roles, from the primary speaking parts through to the behind the scenes actors of the Women of Jerusalem and Apostles before and after the abandonment of Jesus.

So many people have done their parts and done them well I am very proud to have been able to assist in co-ordinating and directing the play. An event like this generates a great camaraderie and fellowship and fosters a deeper understanding of not just this critical point in salvation history, but also the very human element that is the point of the whole Passion. Every actor and member of the crew and supporters must know that all the work and effort has been worthwhile to so many people.

Thank you.
