The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque is an Ottoman mosque located in the Edirnekapı neighborhood near the Byzantine land walls of Istanbul, Turkey. Located on the peak of the Sixth Hill near the highest point of the city, the mosque is a prominent landmark in Istanbul.
The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque was designed by Mimar Sinan ("Sinan the Architect") for the favorite daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, Princess Mihrimah. Its building took place from 1562 to 1565. The complex has been severely damaged by earthquakes several times (including 1719, 1766, 1814 and 1894), and although efforts were made to restore the mosque, its attendant buildings received less attention. The dome was further damaged during 1999 İzmit earthquake, and required restoration, along with the upper half of the minaret.
The interior is a cube under a dome 20 m in diameter and 37 m high. On the north and south sides, triple arcades supported by granite columns open onto side aisles with galleries above, each with three domed bays. A vast amount of surface area is covered by windows, making the mosque one of the brightest lit of any of Sinan's works. Some of the windows contain stained glass.The interior stencil decorations are all modern. However, the mimbar in carved white marble is from the original construction.
As built, the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque had a külliye which included (besides madrasah) a double hamman, türbe and a low row of shops under the terrace upon which the mosque was built, whose rents were intended to financially support the mosque complex.
One of the historic mosques of Timbuktu, the Sankore mosque was built during the declining years of the Empire of Mali, in the early 15th century A.D. Architecturally, it is remarkable for its large pyramidal mihrab.

Muslim leaders in the Netherlands commissioned a research on Dutch youngsters of Moroccan and Turkish descent who 'import' marriage partners from their parental homeland. The imported partners often find it hard to adjust to Western society, learn the new language. This results in a high divorce rate and other unpleasantries. Today I visited Al-Fateh Mosque (finally). It's apparently one of the biggest mosques ever and (propably) the only in Bahrain that can be visited by tourists. Its surface is ~7,000 square meters and space for over 7,000 worshipers at once. It's placed in Jaffair, Bahrain.

"Three Balconies Mosque"
The mosque has four minarets of different heights located at the four corners of the open court. The tallest, on the southern corner, is 67 meters in height and is decorated with a zigzag pattern in red and white stone. It is an early example of the use of separate staircases to access the different balconies. Its upper shaft and three balconies, like those of the other minarets, were rebuilt in a less ornate fashion than the original muqarnas work after having collapsed in the 1752 earthquake. The west, north and east minarets are designed, respectively, with spiral (burmali or yivli), fluted and diamond patterns and have single balconies except for the northwest minaret with two balconies.

We decided to return to the southern side of old Fes. We walked by the Kairaouine Mosque and managed to squeak a peak through the open doors.
